Warhammer 1 engine versus Warhammer 2
Quick question, folks. I'm a TW junkie who only recently picked up Warhammer 1, because I'd assumed it wouldn't run on my 4 y/o Ideapad. Turns out, my trusty laptop chugs through it well enough. Pretty playable. I've been happy.

How does the Warhammer 2 engine compare? Is a technological leap forward, or pretty much the same engine with a little extra sparkle? Can I safely assume that a rig which runs the first chapter ok will run this one too?

Thanks.

Good point. Thanks, mufur.

I'll grab it.
As mufur said; both games use the same engine (which is part of how they were able to crank 2 out so soon after 1's release - that and having a dev team making it while another team worked on patching and making DLC for 1). This also made it easier to bring in content from the previous game.

Biggest issue you might have shifting to this one from the first is with the Mortal Empires campaign - it's got an absolute crapload of factions. It won't be your graphics card working harder, but your processor and memory. Worst part's just going to be long waits while the game resolves every faction's turn after you finish yours.

Makes sense.

For me TW2 is less optimized , could play TW1 on high no problem, while TW2 normal is already difficult, have to play at low for decent framerate.
The problem is my GPU... its clearly more demanding on the GPU, probably more demanding on everything.

TWW2 is more intensive on system resources than 1

there are many new features and yes alot more "sparkle" so id double check requirements just to be safe

the mortal empire campaign does suffer a little from long turn end times

but with the huge number of factions that is to be expected and so far i havnt found it to be to long .

the ME campaign is where it is at though for me ,all factions 1 big map kill or be killed ..just like the WH universe should be

and with tomb kings coming out in a little under 2 weeks i cant wait !!

You will have to turn down settings slightly. Same engine, but slightly more hardware hungry.

Shadows, Fog, SSAO and Anti-Aliasing settings, over FXAA, will need to be off or low-medium, most likely.

If you can run the first game, you will be able to run the second game. Yet you will have to turn down, eventually, a few things.

Thanks guys - very helpful. I'll double-check the deets and possibly wait until I replace this rig, which won't be too far off.

2 definately runs worse than one. If you try 2 just make sure you do not go over the 2 hour mark so you can refund it if it runs too poorly.
