if they attack you, you fight them at your walls
Sounds like he is initiating it as he says the next round he will be attacked by a superior force, most likely and additional army coming his way. He just seems unable to accept that sallying forth means you leave your defensive walls.
Any explanation?
I dont attack the besieging army.
You have walls on the settlement (and crenellations on the settlement name).
Your army is inside the walls.
You aren't playing Wood Elves.
The enemy is attacking you.
...and you still end up with a field battle.
Yeah that's a bug. Not one I've ever encountered myself.
