War Hydra vs Black Dragon

I know these are two different units in what they do - But generally speaking, which is more effective in what they do? When you're playing the DE, which of these do you keep in your stacks more?

In singleplayer campaign the War Hydra just seems like the best. It's regen and arrow resistance always makes it one of the last units standing. I've seen my Hydras protect my flanks, sometimes soloing agaisnt a unit of cav plus infintry, and hold out till my other troops are done with their targets. The Dragons are tough, but a bit more vulnerable. Spears and pikes always go after them when they land, and archers as well as other flyers always try to knock them out of the sky. Sure the Dragon is fast, and it's eaiser to use its breath weapon, but you have to baby sit it. In multiplayer the opposite happens. The Dragon is prefered over the Hydra. Mostly becasue of the Dragons mobility. It's important to dictate the course of a battle when fighting against a human. The AI's stupidity is what makes the Hydra shine over the Dragon in single player.

Very easy to beat with elf archers.
