Thanks to everyone for all the great comments!
I don't want to feel superior to anyone. But I feel like I have such tactical superiority to the AI that it might make things fairer and more realistic if I refrain from pausing.
I do agree with the comment about pausing to look at new units, or to look at monsters or the battle and appreciate it, but maybe just not issue orders during pause might work best.
Also I do have my eye on maybe finding another old geezer or 2 or 3 to play an online campaign with, and learning to fight better without pause would be helpful for that.
Same.
But sometimes I use slow motion hack when the micro gets out of control if i have a reinforcing army.
God, don't even start talking about that. Any army above 20 units is horrible to control, haha.
And if it's just for the sake of the unit card selection bar being completely incomprehensible with that many cards in it.
No shame in the way you play, you payed to enjoy a game in which ever way you choose.
It could be a good exercise to prepare yourself for lege. Go ahead and challenge yourself.
You don't need to pause to issue orders correctly, nor to take positionament advantage from the battlefield.
Using age as an excuse for doing or not doing something is a pet hate of mine, as it is little more than a cop out. If you are a lazy gamer, less capable, or suffer from a physical disability that limits your ability be honest with yourself, there is nothing wrong with that; but just saying I am getting older or I am over X years old, GTFO.
I played an empire campaign in TW1 like that.
Pro:
Game can be a lot more intense, you have to focus your attention to the right part of the battle and get your timing right for charge boni.
Neutral:
You suffer more casualties
Con:
You will be so busy that you mostly can´t zoom in and watch the action up close.
So most of the glorious, gory details of the battles will be lost to you.
