Hitting pause during battles.
Because I have a hard time controlling the camera, and getting it to where I want/need, and well frankly because I am older and don't like frantic scrolling and clicking etc. I end up hitting pause a lot in battles.

I am far superior to the AI in battles, and I am beginning to think I should make a rule for myself to not hit pause during battles. If that means the AI wreaks some havoc with cavalry that I don't immediately counter etc, so be it.

I would like thoughts and opinions on this, as well as:
Do you hit pause during battles?
If you fight online against other players can you hit pause etc.

I only play on Legendary now so I literally don't have that option, but prior to my shift over to that I paused all the time. I rationalized it less as stopping time and assessing the situation and more as orders being given to multiple units at a time so the different wings of the army can work in tandem, which is currently something that the game doesn't let you simulate any other way.

Was is something you did from the beginning, or was it a habit you had to break yourself of?
I remember back in the day, getting Starcraft and just hating it... I really don't like all the "fastest clicker wins" gameplay.
But yeah, I should probably allow my army to take more caualties by keeping the giving orders process realistic and not pausing.

actually never did it but i think that´s because i played a lot of multi-player in my Shogun 2 days. And on legendary you can´t pause at all

I pause ALL THE TIME. And I often wondered myself if I should make a special rule not to pause. But hell, I like pausing, haha. I suck in MP, go figure ;)

Play the way you get the most enjoyment out of the game. Don't play as a way to try to feel superior to another player, that is just a trap.

Thanks to everyone for all the great comments!

I don't want to feel superior to anyone. But I feel like I have such tactical superiority to the AI that it might make things fairer and more realistic if I refrain from pausing.

I do agree with the comment about pausing to look at new units, or to look at monsters or the battle and appreciate it, but maybe just not issue orders during pause might work best.

Also I do have my eye on maybe finding another old geezer or 2 or 3 to play an online campaign with, and learning to fight better without pause would be helpful for that.

I only ever pause for ambush battles and siege - but only at the start, so I can group up my units in ambushes and for the towers to move simultaneously in sieges.

Same.

But sometimes I use slow motion hack when the micro gets out of control if i have a reinforcing army.

God, don't even start talking about that. Any army above 20 units is horrible to control, haha.
And if it's just for the sake of the unit card selection bar being completely incomprehensible with that many cards in it.

Peronaly I think switching to slow mo is a good way to add soem challenge to it... obviously I pause a ton for great screenshots that me and friends trade of epic battles so it's nice to have the option just for those kinda things

I pause or slow alot to enjoy whats going in these faster pace battles, also if its a really fricken tough one I pause aswell.

No shame in the way you play, you payed to enjoy a game in which ever way you choose.:pleased:

If you don't pause you either learn to play without pausing or pay the price for mistakes.
It could be a good exercise to prepare yourself for lege. Go ahead and challenge yourself.

You don't need to pause to issue orders correctly, nor to take positionament advantage from the battlefield.

53 and rarely if ever hit pause during legendary campaigns.

Using age as an excuse for doing or not doing something is a pet hate of mine, as it is little more than a cop out. If you are a lazy gamer, less capable, or suffer from a physical disability that limits your ability be honest with yourself, there is nothing wrong with that; but just saying I am getting older or I am over X years old, GTFO.

There is an option that restricts camera and disables pause when you start a campaign.
I played an empire campaign in TW1 like that.

Pro:
Game can be a lot more intense, you have to focus your attention to the right part of the battle and get your timing right for charge boni.

Neutral:
You suffer more casualties

Con:
You will be so busy that you mostly can´t zoom in and watch the action up close.
So most of the glorious, gory details of the battles will be lost to you.

I think you should do whatever you think makes the game more enjoyable for yourself. I prefer to pause during battles and make gameplay harder in other ways.
