How to use noble to - secure influence
Hi there.

Need some help how to use the "secure influence" tactic.

After recruiting a noble (High Elf) how do I give him the ability and send him out to start securing influence for me?

Appreciate any/all help

Select your noble. Right-click on any settlement you do not own. Select "Secure Influence". Profit.

Sorry - super new. Think I'm close but still no luck. Thank you for the response though.

I recruited a noble - shipped him off across the sea. Went to Al Haikk (capital) no right click option. I moved over to try a couple other places - through to Eye of Panther ( Neutral minor settlement) and still no option when I right click.

...wow, something's gone wrong there then. Uh, you're not using any mods already, are you? That's all I can think of, because otherwise you should get that option straight away. It's not like you have to unlock it or anything.

I may have done something for sure. I downloaded the game and the DLC's.

When I mouse over I get 3 options (without clicking)
- right click to attack settlement
- left click to inspect
- double left click to initiate diplomacy (opens the full diplomacy window)

Does it need to be a specialized noble or will anyone one do? I grabbed one without costing me any influence to get

Ah. That sounds like what you have is a Lord, not a Hero. Subtle difference here, but you can see it more clearly if you start as Lothern (Tyrion - "I fight for the Greater Good" etc etc) on the Vortex campaign. He starts with his own army and a SEPARATE Noble Hero.

You use this, and any future recruited, Noble Heroes to Secure Influence - note that if you have put the Hero in an army (also by selecting the Hero, then right-clicking on the army) they cannot use their activated ability, but only any passive one they have unlocked, such as increased army replenishment (healing) or scouting (item drop chance).

Oh! dang. Your right - not a "hero".. I kept reading that it needed to be noble so I selected a Prince. That makes a lot of sense - next up, will go try to recruit a "hero". thank you kindly for all your help

But do this not with a settlement of an ally ore neutral faction you do not want to anger.

Oh yeah, definitely. Any action you take against another faction will make them upset with you - and for the first few playthroughs, don't worry TOO much about trying to make alliances or confederations with the non-playable High Elven factions. Lothern, Order of Loremasters, Avelorn, and Nagarythe (and if you like chariots and have the first game, Tiranoc in the megamap of Mortal Empires) are the ones you want to join up with.

Start by getting trade agreements and non-aggression pacts, but don't advance into defensive or military alliances until you are ready for warfare on two or more fronts - the AI has a tendency to pull you into wars you weren't always ready for if you are fully allied with them, just to see how well you cope!

And hey, if you ever need more general advice, or something more specific, don't hesitate to ask. We're surprisingly newbie-friendly for an Internet forum. Be careful around Hurricane though. He's often right, but is a complete **** about it and if you argue, you're wrong forever. Eh, you can't win them all.
