The only TW game with significant unlockables is Napoleon IIRC, since you had to beat all of his story campaigns in order to unlock the Grand Campaign.
In Total War: Warhammer 1, once you finish the grand campaign, the beastmen campaign and the wood elves campaign you get rewarded with a new lord and unit for use on multiplayer and battles (not in the campaigns). That's why ppl were asking and being disappointed of zero rewards in TW:WH2 :(
So you never heard of Rome 1?? There you unlock factions by beating that faction or winning the campaign. And in Warhammer 1 if you beat the beastmen solocampaign you get Boris Todbringer to play in multiplayer. There are probably other TW games that unlock something but it´s been a while since i played the old TW games
