Anyone else finding Lizardmen units a bit lacking?
Its my favorite faction for looks, simply amazing models and by far the most unique of any unit in TW history. But so far in campaign, Im getting stomped by just about every other faction. Anyone else feel like they are overwhelmingly weak?

The cheap units are exceedingly bad, which is somewhat of a given, but every other faction has way better starting units, except the Skaven who have had absolutely no presence in any of my campaigns so far anyway. Toe to toe, I almost always will lose unless I overwhelm the enemy with greater numbers. And that would be fine if it wasnt for the fact that their upkeep is just as high as the other much better units. Skinks upkeep is way too high considering they are cannon fodder, and the higher tier saurus units still lose against the low tier elven counterparts. The massive Bastiladon cant even best a single unit of mounted chaos knights. The mounted units are also lacking, the cold one spear rides who specialize in anti-large still cant best an anti-infantry cavalry unit from the other factions.

Its confusing, Im guessing they did extensive testing and balancing for this game, so hopefully Im just doing something wrong? Any pro tips on how to be successful with Lizardmen?

Lol dude I'm getting owned by lizard men in my Clan Mors campaign on legendary, what do you mean they're lacking?

I can confirm that in my legendary difficulty campaign with Kroq-Gar so far I am wrecking absolute face.
Invest in saurus units asap. Use skinks only as ranged backup preferably chameleon skinks (late game i'm not using any skinks anymore minus a couple flyers). The cohorts don't have a real presence.
The armor on the all the dinos is crazy high which you can abuse and skink priests (heavens) have insane spells as well and will be riding on their own dino soon enough making them monsters in melee on top of it. Amazingly fun faction to play they exceeded my high expectations.

Ill have to try this out. Monstrous units are carrying me right now, and sometimes they will rampage off to chase routers and leave the rest of my ♥♥♥♥ infantry left to die. Im obviously using units to flank enemies as well, it just doesnt work all of the time

I've even been considering starting over, and literally camping until I unlock Temple Guards.

temple guards are bearly worth it just use saurus warriors. they rekt pretty much anything inf that is thrown at them. also skinks are not melee units so don't use them as such, skink chorts are just skavenslaves/zombies they can do alright at killing ranged units. hell you don't even need range units at all. I would honestly argue the lizardmen are the strongest faction other then maybe dark elves, buts that's only cause dark elves have good counters to lizardmen

I am quite a terrible player when it comes to battle and this is on easy lol. I massed a saurus army with Kro-Gar and fought another lizardman group consiting mostly of skinks. My auto calc said I had around a 75%+ chance of winning but I wanted to do it manually. I ended up taking a lot more casualties than I should have mainly due to the skinks out running my saurus while peppering them with blowpipes.

Similar style when vsing skaven however with no where near as many deaths. Skaven armies seem to just run off in all directions half way during the fight and I need to run off and chase them down which is bloody annoying lol.

Wow, well thats embarassing. I must not be as good at the game as I tell myself. Its not that Im losing the overall campaign, its just the units Im using underperform, even if the estimate of power shows Im way over its almost always a pyrric or close victory.

The main issue Ive had is vs chaos/norse tribes. Maybe they are just a tough match for Lizardmen, but a single chaos armored maurader unit will take 3 units of saurus guys to handle, otherwise it starts saying combat even.

Ive lost numerous full stack armies to chaos armies of only 10-12 units. Its usually those damn armored mauraders and the irritating horse skirmishers, they are impossible to deal with because they just run away, shoot, run away, and they end up kiting units away from the battlefield to deter the missiles. If I forget to check on everyone every minute, Ill find multiple units on the edge of the map on a futile pursuit of cav.

Nothing to be embarrassed about at all. It sounds like you're having issues dealing with armor, which is precisely the issue in having with lizardmen atm. I haven't played lizardmen yet, but anything armor piercing is sure to chew right through marauders, as they're some of the worst chaos units, with the exception of champions. Horse skirmishers are damn annoying, especially for lizardmen who tend to be slower. I'd recommend throwing some ranged units into your army comps to deal with them, as javelins are sure to make short work of any light cav.

It honestly seems to me many of the lizards armour pierce comes later in the game. Temple guards require a tier 4 city but are normally better at fighting monsters and cav anyway, Kroxes are tier 4 as well since they require the weapon upgrade building (can't remember off the top of my head) Your other options are monstrous units yourself which are great but the facilities also cost a lot.

I'm only around turn 100 in my campaign (just started the 2nd ritual) and I try to keep 2 temple guards and a unit of kroxes in my army to smash armour on the frontlines.

I should note I haven't touched any other factions yet so I'm not sure how other races handle armored units.

Lizardmen are very powerful even the basic saurus can hold lines like gods and even if they do rampage they just sit there still cutting down anything in front of them. Also do not underestimate Skink cohorts (javelins) I was amazed by how quickly they melted Crypt Horrors, their ammo is limited but they are excellent at killing off monster units like Horrors and even do brilliant damage to cavalry as well. The amount of defences I won on my unwalled settlements honestly surprised me. Lizardmen really are brilliant defenders with me even beating a full army vampires with only 5 units and the garrison lord. I also beat a full army with Skaven who had a load of stormvermin with the same settlement but also another lord with 2 units of blessed terradon riders (fireleech bolas) that time.

I dont know, Skaven are destroying me as Lizardmen. They bring so many skirmish infantry that its impossible to beat them... I need to bring more ranged units to counter otherwise theres nothing I can do (even using 10-12x temple guard)

chaos tend to have a lot of armor, so try using dinos, croxigors, and temple guard against chaos
