I will try that thanks. Got Morathi up to 200 approval while still in alliance and I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong.
As soon as I proposed Confederation I was at 165+ relationship and it was a moderate chance, no strings attached I just sent it and she instantly accepted. I took all her territories and became in debt -18.7k GOLD because she had so many ♥♥♥♥ing Lords without any units, I just booted them all out.
This was on VERY HARD btw, so I had some Campaign penalties but it was not that big of a deal.
And then their usually-low Loyalty kicks in...
Damn, I wish I could remember, but I was in a long standing alliance with the Cult of Pleasure, I thought it was a Military alliance but it could have been a defensive one. I really can't recall but every time I went to war, they joined in and the same in return. Many turns in I noticed that Confed was green in the diplomacy screen so I did it then instantly had massive financial problems.
The only real thing you can do is just wait until either you have grown to be significently more powerful and/or they have also been weakend in confilicts with other factions.
Although in my DE game with Malakith, the major change happend once Mazamundi (and others) had grown in power even more through other fights and the Cult of Pleasure had been pushed down from 2nd strongest to 6th without them really loosing too much themselves. Then suddenly Morathi seems much more willing to conferderate with me (along with a 20000 gold incentive...)
Yea, that's how I did it. Keep an eye on how the faction you want to confederate is doing. If you ever see them slip from rank 8 in power to rank 30 something chances are they're losing a war and will be open to confederate.
I confederated Morathi with Malekith on Very Hard when she had 10 more settlements than I did. She has slipped dramatically in power ranking from fighting with Hexoltal and conferated with me despite being higher in power ranking than me a few turns earlier.
She might be wounded when you confederated. In which case you should see her in your army summary tab.
Maintain strength (army), non aggression and trade and wait. Common High Elven Foes will help.. then just wait for good relations an try. Generally they will confederate if they are less superior and threatened by outside forces. Some.. just dont... so typical d-bag Dark Elf... take by force if you want.. their isnt much special about the minor DE leaders.
Some other Morathi Tips-
Make a full stack army and grab one of the High Elf gates... smash near by settlements for cash and slaves.. then send the army on a piligaging spree on the inner circle of High Elf land for more money and slaves... while doing so.. build another army back at the gate.. and use it as a army mustering center... until you are pushed out. Basically... do some hardcore raiding of High Elf land.. they will come for you any way... and watch the Lizards to the south... they tend to try and muck things up if not skaven distracted.
Ive gone over 150 turns.. and never able to close to confederate with Maliketh.
Morathi is listed as HARD.. for a reason.
