Compared to the VC spell for direct-damage against a single unit (Spirit Leech?), it's a joke... the cost is quite high, and I always expected it to be lowered, but nope.
I mean, if you absolutely need to finish off a LL or Giant, I guess it works... but the cost is so high, well, it probably is still better to spend on Rust or some buff for whatever unit is fighting that enemy.
AoE is the only real perk to Final Transmutation IMO. Like the quote directly above says, if you can manage to cast it over a tight pack of very elite enemies, it probably works reasonably well... but bear in mind that if that blob is mostly goblins or low-tier trash with maybe just a hero mixed in, then you are probably wasting the spell because the AoE is indeed the only real plus to it.
Spamming rust on key targets, using transmutation of lead, and casting hounds on densely packed enemies seems like much more effective use of my limited magic power.
