Previous total war games you could set the graphics independently for the campaign map, I really don't know why they changed it, because it would be the most convenient way of fixing the lag if your PC was struggling to run it.
Have you played Rome 2, and is your campaign map lag free with that one?
Hey, did you ever find a solution for Wh1 campaign lag?
quite late reply but, I actually bought an SSD and reinstalled TW: WH1 on it - the issue persists, at only turn 68 the game is unplayable with 1 fps in the campaign map (battles runs well though)

It prevents a lot of slowdown on my system.
Go to your Nvidia settings and try Adaptive or fast sync for WHII.
Is there something like this for TW Warhammer 1?
