Units to avoid rock-paper-scissors game?
I have always loved the Total War games but I have always hated the rock-paper-scissors game, it's terrible because the AI won't stop trying to manuver his cavalry to charge my archers and it has been by far the most unfun part of the game.

In the Empire and Napolean games you could just have elite infantry and they are strong enough to kill calvalries before they can charge in. And the artilary pieces aren't very accurate so you can ignore them for the most part. It was so nice because you can just have a bunch of old guards with super elite infantry, you know you can win a 1 on 1 between any two units.

In Shogun 2 you can just have like samurai + spearmen because archers aren't that strong, you can just charge them, and then transition into guns and finally, a full army of gatling guns counter everything.

In this game, everything is super weak to something else it's so frustrating. The spearmen get demolished by melee infantry, the melee infantry get destroyed by archers and cavalry, the cavary can't ever catch up to missile cavary and the missile cavary can't deal with flying beasts, and the flying beasts just get surrounded and kills 1 guy every 5 seconds.

I hate that ♥♥♥♥, I just want one or at most two unit types I can fill my army with! I don't want to have to keep 4 different types along with artilery and dragons and heroes and mages and ♥♥♥♥, there's no time to control them, I'm almost always on pause and still the AI gets his wolf packs around my back.

Well, if you are playing High Elves, you can use Seaguard, they are a combo of spearmen/archer. They are not as good as the dedicated ones at either job, but they can do both.

It doesn't work, that was the first thing I tried. they get outranged so a bunch of archers counter you hard. More like they just aren't strong against anything. I've even levled my legendary lord to buff seaguard, it was a total waste.

Seaguards, archers, bolt trowers - you're packed

Seaguards and archers are terrible against armored though.

Basically, what you're saying is that you don't like to use balanced armies, and would rather have 1-2 'super' unit types that dominate everything else - a notion that most RTS gamers hate.

You'll have to find some mods to tailor the game to your liking, or alternatively, learn to use multiple unit types.

Yes, and I hate RTS games that do this. Like in Red Alert how a tank takes several shots to kill an infantry, it's stupid.

I mean it doesn't even matter if the unit is super expensive, so long as it doesn't have any counters, that's what I want.

Now I'm thinking, would a full army of dragons work?

Well, if you play HE, an army of 20 Star Dragons would steamroll anything in it's way, at least in singleplayer.

Literally every high end monster unit will work in stacks of 20... not sure why you'd want to do that because you might as well autoresolve, since all you do is group them together and press right click on the enemy army anyway.

To not fall asleep while your uncounterable unit plays the game?

So you want a one dimensional game? Hmm, perhaps you should play solitaire? I think games like these are too much for you.

Of course he can. I was just making suggestions that would better suit his abilities and preferences.
