Carnosaur compared to Ancient Stegadon
How does everyone feel these two match up in terms of use? I'm finding that despite stat differences the stegadon handles everything better. Heros or units get wiped much faster due to a combination of it's short range artillery fire and much more effective attack animations.

Edit: Not even monsters. Stegadon all the way

So far, pitting units against them, the carnosaur's only advantage is speed. Stegadon outperformas against infantry(anti large), monsters and while close even heros. The thing thats making the difference is the fact that stegadon has better animations and gets shots off even close up.

Send your Carnosaur against Large enemies like monsters and dragons if they land, it tears them apart. The Stegadon is more of a anti armored infantry unit that is really hard to take down

Checked. Each vs star dragons. The Stegadon would win each time, while the Carnosaur lost. Then the Stegadon would (not always) usually finish off the 2nd star dragon.

Still testing.

It handles infantry so much better because it can hit so many of them while the Canosaur can only hit a few. I'm getting the impression it's more of a cycle charge monster due to its speed.

Ancient Stegadon is great against big groups of enemies, the charge plus the gatling gun stile poison darts destroy the enemy moral (especially since it count as Artillery fire)

The Carnosaur shine when dealing with enemy heroes, lords and monsters. Is almost beautifull when the Carnosaur charge at and enemy lord, send him fliying 40 meters from were he charged him, then jump over to keep mauling him... while sending any small enemy in the way flying with his tail attack.

This also apply to the Lizarmen heroes, the Skinks that get the ancient Stegadons are greath againts infantry, while the Saurus hero is best dealing whith enemy heroes and monsters

This is what I expected but it's not true in application. Stegadon outperforms.

If your experience differs perhaps the rng isn't working in favor of the carnosaur that well on my end. At this rate I'm just going to replace him with the more useful stegadon.

I'm using the test mods btw so anyone who can argue otherwise, I'll be able to test it very quickly.

Regardless I'm going to keep using Carnosaurs if nothing else for the cool factor.

Stegadons are OP really. Carnosaur as you said has the speed advantage which is important but Carnosaur usually win over everything in melee. Which is why Mazdamundi is one of the best melee heroes if you stack DMG resistance on him, ironically for the most powerful sorcerer alive (and not a corpse like Kroak).

Personally, I prefer to use a mix. 2-3 stegs 1 carn for my two flank groups. Combining both of thier awesome qualities.

I usually send my Carno after range unit and arty because they fast and better survivability than normal cav, other than that I don't really use them much because they die fast. Stega don't have anti-large but that thing overpower verything with just raw power.
I haven't tested them on calvary yet but I can see how carnasor would be useful for them due to speed and anti large against a unit.

That depends on the cavalry tipe I suppose.
I'm invading Naggaroth in my campaign and the dark riders and cool ones cavalry of the dark elves start wavering as soon as the ancient Stegadon unleash a volley of darts on them.

And if they get any closer a second discharge or the automatic charge that the Stegadon do when and enemy get to close break them.

The crossbow units (infantry/archers, not the ones on horses) on the other hand, with their armor piercing proyectiles can make short work of the dinosaurs if left uncheked

To be fair you should just replace the Carnosaur with Saurus heros and level them to have the Carnosaur mounts. They end up with much better stats and still have the anti large bonus, their weapon damage is like 150 more.

Edit. I forgot to say they also don't rampage like Carnosaurs do.
