Dragon army composition
So im halfway through the vortex campaign, but i have a ♥♥♥♥ ton of extra income with everything but the desert west of the sotek mountains being mine and nearly fully upgraded with a huge stack of 56k gold. I want to make an Dragon themed army, recruited a dragon willed lord and got a bunch of research being done for dragon units.

My question is if i actually make this army do i need foot units or else my dragons will be forced to land? if so do what should i put in them?

I'm pretty sure you need at least one ground unit or else the entire army routes.

Not exactly.
If your whole army is flying and no unit is on the ground/landed, your whole army gets an increasing leadership debuff.

This can result in a mass rout, but usually you have enough time till the fighting begins and then there is usually always one unit at the ground.

Ah I suppose I am used to Vampire flying units, where they route much more quickly due to low leadership. Your right with dragons it could probably work since they have such good leadership :)

Hmm, So at the beginning of a battle they would all land and lose some leadership? Should i make a single foot unit? if so what should i get?

They don't land automatically, only when attacking.

Your whole army constantly looses leadership if you got no one on the ground.

Because of the healing spells and for drawing the enemy, I would recommend including a loremaster and maybe a life Mage.

Just that? no regular units?

Jup, Just a lord, 2 heroes and 17 dragons.

Because of microing and not much that holds enemies in place it's not that effective, but def. doable.

Get dragon princes naturally
The Void Boy Nov 12, 2017 @ 5:40pm
yes get one unit of Dragon Princes and hide them somewhere, then just get 18 Star Dragons and put the lord on a Star Dragon

Yeah i know its not super effective, i am mostly doing it for fun cuz i have a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money.

Also i hear ppl talking about hydra themed armies for DE, do DE lords get nice traits like HE or are they much less powerful?

DE lords get quasi-random names of power.

You'd want a couple of ground units to avoid that issue, even if it's just a mage/loremaster and their bodyguard.

They are random but can make your generic lords super powerful.

Just imagine a dragon riding, regenerating dreadlord able to field sniper shades and has superior campaign movement range.

But the names of power can be useless too, so pretty random.

(12 in each category and you choose between 2).

Hydras are great meatshields for shades, though.
