Depends on the situation. I'd rather have the cannon for cavalry and the catapult for infantry for example.

I would usually just have both, 2 catapults and 1 lighting cannon.

If I want to completely destroy the enemy with artillery, I go with 3 or 4 catapults.

If I was going to only have 1 artillery to force the enemy to move. I would go with the lighting cannon. It can kill infantry pretty well, and it's anti large.

They're both great, really. Lightning cannon is stupidly accurate, and the plague catapult wrecks enemy morale even if it doesn't kill any models. You can take either one and be fine. Just be aware that the cannons have a low firing arc, and maps with lots of hills can cause issues.

I prefer cannon, though I rack up most kills with catapult. Cannon is just really good at taking out annoying enemies skaven otherwise struggle with.

+1

Always both, usually 2 of each. Different roles but each is great.

If we are talking about raw damage and killing potential, Then the warp lightning cannons are much better,

Their firing points are quite high up on the model so they can shoot over your lines without worrying about friendly fire they are more direct so they will go through a line of enemys and maybe carry on through behind them into another unit and given the nature of the ai when it moves up units and clumps up you can easily get 40+ kills per volly

The catapults are also good and cause morale damage also (-10Leadership if i remember) which is brilliant i normally use catapults on my front lines you can manually tell it to aim and fire on a spot with Shift + Left/right Click (cant remember which one) do it so its just at the back of the enemy units so you dont friendly fire

I normally get 2 cannons 1 catapult

but ofc you could just always get DOOOMWHEEELS! and decimate entire armies with them, just keep them clear of enemy big units and you will be fine

Warp lightning cannon is more accurate and better against large targets than catapults.

I find them overall more useful than catapults and don't use any more catapults once I have access to them.

Here is a breaking news update. Different units are used in different situations. There is no beat all end all unit. So use each according to what its good for.

That i do understand, but i was just wandering what was the better option
I mainly use artillarie to force the enemy into attacking so that i can setup a defending formating at which i play best.
I also know that Catapult is better for infantry and the canon is more focused on anti large, but looking purely at the stats the canon better (stats wise) so i was just wondering about them!

Anywa thnx everyone for you're reply!

The cannon is very good to snipe monsters with.

The Warp Lightning Cannon is outrageously powerful. 4-6 of them blow up anything the enemy has. Even better, charge a small meat shield into the front of the enemy to make them cluster, then fire on that cluster. The cannons net 20-30 kills per projectile.

The catapults are good value, but they're not good at killing cavalry and they're basically useless against high-tier units because they rely on breaking the enemy's morale early more than killing them outright.

Six catapults and 2 warp cannons are enough to destroy most of the armies AI will put against you at range. There is no point in having 1 cannon - you need 2 to snipe the enemy lord/star dragon before he enters melee range.

And six catapults dont let the enemy infantry to reach your front line.

I am not sure why ppl love warp cannons, since in my experience catapults always always always get many more kills and, which is more important, they maky enemy to run long before he reaches your front line. Unless you fight army of 19 star dragons of course.

Usually the catapults have 200+ kills per battle, the warp cannons - 30+

2 plagueclaw catapults and 1 warplightning cannon is more than enough.

I liked canon morer because i can chip away incoming armies , archers, target cavalry and of course wreck monsters buuuuut..... I HATE that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing that makes canons walks towards towers instead of shooting them

Well of course do the catapults get more kills. They kill the weak that come in docens while the cannon kill the strong units of 1 giant.

So a cannon will have 200 killed enemies consisting of low tier infantry while the cannon took out the 2 or 3 giants that could wreck your army.

I love both but the kill count alone tells you nothing
