Spear or Sword at the front?
Which units are the best to hold the front line. spear with shield or sword with shield? Of any faction. Because i see often not a big difference. Only the "good against great/ big/ monster" (what ever it called in english version)

i think its better to have spears on the flanks to protect the backline against cavalry and a frontline with swordsmen or halberds

sword where available, spear on the flanks. If swords aren't available, like with High Elves, Wood Elves, then choose spearmen/eternal guard

There is no rule, depends on their stats (armor, attack defence...) and what they are facing (big/infantry).

I usally have spearmen and elites/swordsmen mixed in the front (playing the campaign) plus spear/halberds on the sides to prevent cavalry incursions.

Halberds. Always, unless your missile troops are very weak or non-existant (Vampires). It does not matter center or flanks because most dangerous enemy troops are large flying monsters, heavy cavalry, elite armored infantry. And halberds are good vs all of them.

+1 for the halberds.
Or if you are facing heavy infantry armies like dwarf, greataxes.

Depends on who you are fighting. Had a Greenskin army spam trolls, had like 6-7 of em. Spear Frontline worked perfectly

When in doubt, phoenix it out

If you want a front line to just hold and not deal as much damage, spears and halberds will be your go to unit. They generally have higher melee defence and charge defence against large/all.

Depends a lot on what you want your front to do and what enemies you are facing.

Lots of neighbours with monsters/chargers/cavalry, go spears. Want your frontline to murder enemy infantry? Go swords or great weapons.

Spears are excellent units to hold the enemy while another unit goes to work to murder them or to intercept cavalry or monsters before they can bend your archers over and plunder their butt booty.

Swords are the ones you want if you want your frontline to take other units apart. They're more flexible on the offense because any unit that isn't holding an enemy at bay can maneuver around and smack into their flanks or backs to deal satisfying damage - most spear units aren't really dangerous even if they do flank or backstab.

The AI sure likes to try and flank you with cavalry, so spears on the flanks are a good choice. Normally I put greatswords in the center because they are versatile and can do some damage to cavalry, monster, basic and armor infantry.

Depends. If you got spear units with charge defense vs all like Phoenix Guard, you want them in front and center. If you are facing a mixed force and don't have enough spearmen, then you want them on your flanks in such a way that they also cover your archers. If they don't have big units, then have your spearmen on front center to hold the enemy in position while your other units envelop and charge.

On an offensive you want your spearmen on your flanks since they have pretty terrible charge bonuses, unless you see a large unit you can have them engage.

I like Big Guys for that. Treekin, Minotaur aso.

With most Factions i play i dont use Spear or Sword units after the first 50 Turns.

Yes pretty much with WE Treekin with a life mage are all you need for a Frontline. Insanely powerful

As VC Vlad (normal):
Front line: Skeletons(8)
Flank/rear guard: Skeleton Spearman (3)
Flying formations: Fell Bats(3) andVargheists(3)

It works well in the field and decent in a seige. Does not work well with large amounts of cavalry, skirmisher units.
