but for a generic lord that I want to main killing machine as it were, I go for the 10 melee defense and 20 armor one send that guy on foot into infantry, and he will hold off an entire army single handed and your archers and mages can hammer them into the dirt within a minute. or 2 the lord wont hardly have gotten scratched against basic troops, but you may want to prioritize ap elites as targets for your archers.
It made for a stupidly op seaguard / archer army with the upgrades from the red tree on the General.
As far as seaguard value is concerned, by themselves your just better off using archers and spearmen, but get general that boosts seaguard and your set.
Punitive: +20% missile damage (lord's army) -10% missile resistant (enemy's army)
*Forgot the name*: -20% upkeep for dragons +10 magical resistance
(I think it's Dragon Will).
One is very good for low upkeep, while still boosting +10% range.
The other is rampage + a nice debuff that makes it cool to combo with another lord.
A stack of Dragons would be very costly, but. Instead of having 1 or 2 dragons within your main lord stack.
It can be a good idea to just resort to another stack with a ''Dragon Will'' lord. Having 3-4 Dragons.
I think the upkeep is 400, so you ''save'' 320 gold.
Basically, by doing this, it saves you the cost of the lord.
Thus you got your main stack + 4 dragons and a ''bonus'' lord.
But honestly, even if I like the sound of it, I noticed that this strategy is too costly.
Because you really want to have at least 4 Dragons to make the trait worthwile.
And I think I'd rather just use 2 Dragons in my main stack, which save me:
2 fillers (usually I fill the two last slots with LSG).
2 Dragons
Ardent is my fav.
But having one punitive is cool too. Its debuff on enemy army is really good when you combo it with another stack of archers/artillery.
Mages:
As I play Teclis Mages are completely useless to me.
I don't remember having found a single trait that really shines.
I think I usually go for the -15% misscast (I don't even know if it's usefull if you upgrade the spells) and +x powers reserve.
//I AM really interested to know what you guys think about mages and which one do you pick.
I also wanted to try one time the
+100% damage, +100 charge etc. one. (I think it is tied to light mages). But I thought I'd rather go with a Dragon instead.
Loremasters:
Their positive traits are huge.
It's hard to pick something that really outshine something else.
But my favorites are:
- Fecund: Constant health regeneration. -20% fire resistance
+10 growth local province, +5 growth all province.
> I love the +5 growth to all province, having 2-3 loremasters like that can really help you speed up things.
I usually only use one though. But still, it's kewl.
- *Forgot the name*: 90 second spell cooldown that adds +power and +reserves (maybe even great increase).
Basically, your loremaster becomes a potent caster.
I only slightly prefer fecund for some reason. But really, it's by a short margin.
- *Forgot the name*: +10% replenishement, -20% attrition. I never used it, because the two that I mentioned on top, are just better imo. But still. This one is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great.
It saves you the need of a Noble, or at least, in addition to a Noble it makes your stacks really easy to replenish.
While still saving some pain from attrition (but there are other counter-measure against attrition).
And all the other positive traits are still, downright gorgeous, with the usuall +x melee defense, +x armor etc.
Nobles:
- *Forgot the name*: +x charge, +x damage, cause fear.
That's my fav. That's the one I usually pick.
I love terror and fear effects.
I forgot about the other traits. There are a few that sometimes make me hesitate.
But I usually keep with that one mentioned above.
Also. For whatever reason (check my playing time), I always have one of those guys in my list.
No need to refresh.
I don't know if it's by luck.
Actually forgot what the rest of the boon was, but I love high Campaign speed and this gives +10%.
Still the upkeep ones are great, too.
As for the mages, there is one with entrepreneur, which gives a global +3% to tax rate. They pay for themselves and more.
Loremaster have great traits but my favourite is also Feceund. HE suffer from low growth and this one helps. And regeneration is also nice.
But usually I would take global effects over battle effects all the time.
I never have more than 4 sea guard in my armies.
Undoubtedly the one that buffs the Swordmasters. These guys are campaign killers and will wreck everything aside from Corsairs (which they will also kill while taking heavy losses)
You can cheese your way through campaign with upgraded SM with the lord trait.
Another noble - frugal - diminish by 15% upkeep cost of army <my current fav. noble
I tried out Incendiary mage and it's nice. It makes the mage pretty good at fighting while also being a mage. You want to put him in a Chariot and cycle charge.
Sigh, I just noticed that Ardent is only on the Princess - whom I almost never take ;(
I'm pretty sure the other one can appear on a Prince.
