Great Eagle looses to Archers (leather armor)?

So i was fighting a battle and my great eagle got stomped in melee with a pair of Lothern leather archers. I went into a custom battle and tested 1 squad of archers vs 1 great eagle and the eagle lost again, although this time it was pretty close and the archers were in range of the enemy lord's leadership buff. Am i misunderstanding how you are supposed to use flying monsters or is the great eagle absolute trash?

if normal archers can take on a giant eagle whats the point of lothern sea guard? for when the enemy has 2 giant eagles?

i would have thought flyers primary target was artillery, then charges into the back of engaged troops to smash morale follwed by running away again, but i know very litttle

Eagles can't be used like Dragons. You have to use the fact that Eagles can fly fairly fast to flank and take out Arty, you then use them to fly around and hit exposed flanks.

Great Eagle is a support unit. It is not meant to kill units on his own. Main puposes attack artillery, help against other enemy flyer, hero, tie up high dps ranged unit, can chase units after battles. It can be moved fast anywhere on the battlefield, so you can swap front and back him, wherever he is needed.

In a way, all flyers are, some are stronger as solo, some are just a support.

You could use them to tie up Archers for a while and prevent them from shooting, just be aware it is seriously going to hurt your eagle and eventually you will probably have to get it out.

An eagle is to a dragon what mounted yeomen are to grail knights. Fast skirmisher that hits artillery and flanks, but withers to any retaliation. Good for running down and tying up enemy skirmishers too, or if no good targets flying around to the rear of the enemy lines and doing some morale damage.

Don't worry all flyers die easily to archer fire (expection is the gyro copters i guess) but yea eagles, terradons and all the other sort of smaller flyers are only really used to take out art then hit the back lines sort of

I never really use them seem a waste i prefer a nice ground army with fast cav etc
