So apparently J turns your units around without breaking formation or whatnot. It also makes cavalry retreat a little too...

This changes everything

Did you also know if you hold alt and drag an army, they will move in formation, and then you hold control as well to rotate the formation

I did not, but i use the group lock to retain formations

I only figured it out at the start of this year, so glad I learned. Made managing whole armies that much easier, and even single units when I need the quick

They took this out of Shogun 2 I used it all the time. Does anyone know left Face, and right face. Using J key to turn around a unit without breaking formation is called about face in military lingo by the way.

Too bad the about face mechanic doesn't actually work in practice due to limited unit behavior. Another neat mechanic bogged down by CA's usual incompetence.

Zerkovich has a vid about army controls. Worth looking at if you didn't know about J yet. (although J is not always practical)
