Kill 5 vek or less
This quest is just stupid, specially when it can still appear with environmental hazards that kill the vek no matter what, also is poorly written, the 1st time i didnt know what to do, why not just call it "dont kill more than 5 vek"
this quest has to raise the number to 6 or maybe 7 for sure, some squads are just too deadly to move enemies arround without murdering them.
Not to mention some Vek like Burrowers and Diggers are almost guaranteed to take damage, also some vek are very squeeshy and die veri fast, also depends on how many alphas appear, since those have more HP. And on top of that, not being able to kill them means more of them will stack anyways, this quest is a total disaster, probably more detrimental than the train one even

Some squads are not deadly enough to kill 7 Vek. Others have problems with mountain destruction, or cannot start fires, having hard time protecting objects...

The one i would say is literally unable to protect objects is blietzrieg, the fire mission at least has a ton of trees everywhere, i dont see the issue with mountain destruction, none of the squads have problems with that, maybe the steel judoka

Blitzkrieg has the armored Hook mech, which can pull and even grant shield to allies. The rock mech can push.

Well, i don't see any problems with mission that demand more crowd control than killing. None of the squads have problem with that. See how it goes?

the issue is that the lightning mech wont be able to do anything since making a chain into one of the objetives to deffend is very easy

Sometimes you just don't pick a mission you know your squad isn't suited for. In this case, go ahead and kill the 5 you need to get rid of and rely on avoidance and blocking the rest. Try to stand on tiles to block spawning vek, and use mechs to take a hit for buildings as long as they have the hp for it.

The "issue" that different squads have different sets of strong and weak points, and they play it accordingly. This mission is easer for some squads, and harder for others. This is assymetrical balance of ItB.

In a pinch, remember that you can re-allocate cores within a single mech. Maybe that mission would benefit from less damage but more mobility or HP so you can tank a few shots without hitting back.

sometimes the quests are mandatory because of where they spawn, when the game forces me to do an easy shielded quest i get mad
I avoid missions with this side quest as much as possible. Worst new addition to the game.

And as far as I know, "kill 5 enemies or less" has been in the game since launch lol

You know what's worse? "Kill at least 7 vek" + cataclysm. Cataclysm cuts away the back rows and pretty soon no vek will be spawning at all. In my last battle, only 1 vek was emerging total, and I blocked the spot with a burning alpha moth.

Thanks SquareDildo, while I have no complaints about this particular objective, I hadn't considered reallocating cores before a mission to better suit its objectives.

I like it. Some squads struggle with the "kill 7" objective, specially during the 1st or 2nd island. This objective appears tailor made for those squads
