To Start
Looking for advice how to start. I have about 12 runs so far and cannot figure out how to turn this game from tedious into advancement? I dont seem to be getting anywhere and every run is simply the same - no upgrades seem to stay and I start from scratch everytime. Is there anything that presists run to run or do you just have to get lucky enough not to die by the secoind island which I just cleared? I dopnt get this game? just searched a ton but came away unsatisfied with ways to start, maybe because I just got the game.

Pilots is the only thing that count as meta progress here. You can bring last used pilot (with experience and perks) on the run.

Aside from that, you can only count on your own skills and squad tools. It's roguelike, after all.

yeah... of course - other rougelikes dont have any Meta carry overs at all - totally my bad, your own skills.... <rolls eyes>

You can roll your eyes as much as you want, there is no meta carry over apart from unlocked squads and one pilot you can keep.

Play at a lower difficulty level if you can't win.

Unless you keep your previously leveled up pilot, you start from scratch every run.

Also if you change pilots the old one will reset back to 0 xp. There is no permanent meta progression.

You will unlock new pilots and squads but those aren't upgrades, they are more like sidegrades to spice up the game and add variety. No squad is particularly more powerful than any other.

Plenty of roguelikes limiting meta progression to "unlocking new stuff". ItB does have that. Theres is also Easy mode for beginners.

Maybe the starting squad is not the right one for your first run. Try to unlock other squads as soon as you get unlock points. I did my first run with mist eaters, which is a decent squad to get the hang of it.

Luck isn't a factor on lower difficulties -- with the correct play, you can win 100% of the time. Don't try to look for solutions elsewhere, instead, take more time to consider your own decisions and their consequences.

The whole idea of meta progression is a relatively new thing in roguelikes. It's more a rogue"lite" thing really. In "Ye Olden Days" of games like Nethack and ADOM there was none of that. And those games were brutal.

Unlock the squads. Figuring out new ways to play the game is where the fun is, and there's a lot of variety in the squads. The Rift Walkers are good, but boring.

What CJones said. While i like meta progression where it is meant to take me further, i don't think all roguelikes/lites need it. Into the Breach is short, has unlockables and you can keep one pilot from your previous run, that's more that enough to keep me playing.

Don't try to grind meta rewards, approach it as a puzzle game. Focus on defending your grid, moving enemies around instead of trying to do damage. That's what made it click for me

think about moves that you are going to to for more than 10 seconds . think of it like chess:GDNormal:
