Playing on the Steam Deck
I just wanted to tell you what a joy it is to play this game on the Steam Deck.
The graphics are perfect at this size and resolution (7" 1280x800).
The gamepad controls are surprisingly comfortable.
The game itself is meant to be played in short bursts, so you can play a mission, suspend the deck and get back to it at the earliest opportunity.
And while it probably makes no difference, I appreciate the native Linux build that runs smoothly on SteamOS without Proton.
Even though Subset never targeted a device like this, it made the most fitting game for the Deck that I've seen so far.

Thanks for this! I have been thinking of getting a Steam Deck.

Yeah, I second this. The game is perfect for Steam Deck.

Agreed - simply fantastic.

My only issue is I can't figure out which buttons are for start, and the time rewind during a turn (the icons look like a play button).

Yes. Half Rate Shading = like 7+ hours of gaming on a single charge probably 8 if you tweak it more

And the controls are perfect

I think the play symbols to the right and left were what the old Xbox controller had for the so called Start and Select buttons.
Now they seem to be standardizing on "menu" and "view" icons, as on the Deck

How are you playing with gamepad controls? Only touch screen works for me.

I agree, much like advance wars was perfect for Nintendo handhelds this game seems like it was built for the steam deck. Great game for short bursts of entertainment.

For 'start': I had the same problem. Solution: go to 'difficulty setup' (three lines at top of steamdeck), and at the bottom is a 'start' button.
They did target a device like this with their control scheme -- it was on the switch before the Steam Deck ever existed.
