I like Zenith Guard and Frozen Titans, as long as you have the right pilot. I put Abe in the Zenith guard's ramming mech, so I don't need to worry about health as much. And the laser is really powerful if you can it lined up right.
Frozen titans I initially didn't care for, until I started using a shielded pilot in the ice mech. The shield lets you shoot without freezing yourself, which puts an enemy out of commission with each shot.
Least favorite is probably the rusting hulks. The push mech just feels so limited. Steel Judokas are really hit or miss, they start off so slow but their siege mech is awesome, and the armor on the judo mech is cool too.

My favorite mech is the Siege-mech. It does both a push and damage, and in 4 directions to boot - if it doesn't kill through pushing, it will usually displace the target .it is incredibly efficient and can pull you out of some seriously tricky situations.

Flame Behemoths are probably my easiest squad. Swap mech is very powerful, and they have a lot of damage with the fire mechanic although it's not frontloaded.
The all around best squad is the Rift Walkers. The other top tier squads require special pilots to be played optimally, and the other squads often cannot solve basic problems that the Rift Walkers can easily answer. Also, the Rift Walkers are good at doing all of the objectives.

i'm actually a fan of the hazard mecs. the Prime can effectively move and attack at the same time, so you get two attacks AND movements if you have the right pilot,

the Brute mec can deal damage both in front of and behind it at the same time. i've had multiple instances of a vec in front of it, and an egg or bomb behind it, so it fired at the vek, gets pushed backwards into the egg/bomb, and kills them both.

and of course, the science mec has acid and a passive that heals you if you deal a killing blow.
Idk, every squad is cool in some way. But the most intersting IMO is Steel Judoka with Judo Mech. It's fun to use him with Silica as pilot (you can act twice). Hazardous Mechs is the last favorite squad for me (but still fun to play) because the Leap Mech needs alternative weapon ASAP. I wish some day devs add some new content to ITB with new squads...
I personally love Rusting Hulks with their smoke warfare. I put the pilot that ignores smoke and webbing into the fighter jet. Besides that you can never go wrong with good ol' Rift Walkers.
I like the Steel Judokas the most. You have so many options. The first island can be a little tough sometimes, but I think this is the group that gets the easiest the more cores you get

Between the Frozen Titans and Hazardous Mechs, I'd say the HM are better. They are the hardest hitters in the entire game, no other teams really match their firepower and with the leap mech and nano mech, they have some pretty good mobility too. Displacement potential is pretty high as well, but needs to be watched for as simply wounding veks wounds you too. They can use the Self-destruct to tremendous effect as well, they are basically the only one who can for that matter. Nano mech is easily one of the strongest mech of them all as well. Kazaak in the Nano Mech is simply one of the most versatile combo there is.
Frozen Titans can be in contrast very finicky. Ice Mech as potential but can't always be used efficiently if you don't have Bethany or Mafan. They have very little displacement game, one of the weakest in fact. Mirror mech is a pretty good brute but it can be hard to use on some maps. They are capable of doing some crazy good things but are more in need of good pilots and setups than the Hazardous Mechs which play easier in my opinion.

Best team is a difficult question as many have different strengths that aren't always matched closely by any other. Overall, I'd say Hazardous Mechs hit the hardest and are generally very strong. Fire Behemoths have the best displacement game, area control and stalling. FB are in my opinion the best team with maybe the Secret Squad when it comes to not losing any building.

Having won the perfect score on hard with all of them, I'd rate them like this (with simply said 30000 score objective in mind):
TOP
Fire Behemoths > Secret Squad
MID
Rusting Hulks > Unstable Mechs = Zenith Guard = Rift Walkers > Frozen Titans
LOW
Steel Judoka > Blitzkrieg
