Looking for tips on what to spend Reputation on.
Just beat my first island and have 5 reputation points, staring at the upgrade screen and paralysed with indescision. It seems like you have a choice of purchasing specifc attacks or upgrades or buying more generic things like Power. At first glance it seems to me that Power or things like Reactor Cores seem to be inherently more valuable (especially if you're running low), but was hoping to get some input as to how to best use your Rep points. Thanks.

Reactor cores will make up the most of your reputation purchases. Just having stronger mechs and weapons can be the deciding factor in future missions. Though, use your judgment, because every time you open up that shop you're gonna have different priorities, so if you feel you need a new weapon or more power, then go ahead and get it. Also, if you aren't using weapons or pilots, feel free to sell them so you can buy more, you have a max of four shop visits per game so make them count.

I agree: reactor cores are generally the best. I don't normally buy weapons, since the mechs usually come in teams where the pre-existing weapons already have synergy. Making the mechs more powerful seems better to me than making them more exotic.

You shouldn't be buying power since you're already doing a good job of protecting civilians. Hopefully. Of course, if power looks dire and you need it to avoid losing... just don't buy power to boost grid defense except in the case of the one achievement that needs that.

Reactor cores are usually the best purchases you can make, as they allow your Mechs to unlock their full potential.

For any leftover rep, check the weapons and passives if they include anything useful for you. Getting an additional weapon or passive can sometimes help you a lot if it synergizes well with your suqad - for example, if you´re playing the Judoka and have to face Worm enemies, it can be a huge benefit if you can grab an additional weapon that deals direct damage. Otherwise I usually look for cheap passives that ideally don´t need reactor cores, like kickoff boosters.

Energy is usually not the best pruchase unless you are really lacking for it or have truly nothing else to spend on. Remember that you have to spend all your reputation as it does not carry over to the next island - but purchased upgrades do. So if you have, for example, only 1 rep left and additional power doenst do it for you, just buy whatever item is on sale and sell it on the next island to spend the rep there.

If you want, you can stock up on items to sell later at another Island. I'll sometimes do that if I only have 1 or 2 rep left and don't want to buy a power grid upgrade. When I get done with the next island, I'll sell the excess items and see if something better is available.

Not always a good idea to 'never' buy weapons. I bought a pull tank upgrade during a hard mode Hazardous Mechs run and it made the difference between a loss and a win during the 4th island and final mission.

As you play, try to determine what your weaknesses are and what kind of vek problems you are dealing with such as vek spreading out too much attacking buildings, vek constantly webbing everyone etc and if you see a weapon that can help compensate for this weakness during that playthrough, get it and it may make all the difference between a win and a loss.

Yeah, sometimes it's well worth buying a weapon, but make sure it's something that you're sure you will really benefit from, as it will likely have an opportunity cost of 1 fewer reactor core.

Actually lol. Sometimes the best weapon ever shows up like I got that weapon that adds +1 damage to enemies bumping into things during a Steel Judoka playthrough and it was hilariously good synergy.

Don't forget thqat many weapons also cost reactor cores, especially if you mount them in incompatible mechs. It's a bit like my wife buying new shoes to go with her outfits. Then she brings the shoes home and finds they don't match anything she has, so she goes out and buys three new outfits. I must admit, though, she looks great!
