I'm not kidding. One of the enemies just shot the Volatile Vek!
It was the last shot of the game and the enemy just shot their own teammate which cost me an objective!

That's literally the whole concept behind the Steel Judoka. Make the vek kill each other.

Really? That was literally the first thing I tried when I realised how little dmg your dudes deal and almost all squads have 1-2 forced movement abilities. Yes, they attack their own if you force them to, by flipping (aegis mech), shoving, pulling or throwing. They deal full dmg too, and the "steel judoka" squad has a passive equipment piece called "vek pheromones" that make vek deal +1 dmg vs other vek when using their attacks.

Well, the AI never sacrifices its pieces by "shooting through" them, so you had to move either or both of these pieces yourself in order to end up with something like this.

TL;DR: What DaBa said :P

Nope, none of the above is true. That Vek realized they were done for in that mission and he did what he could for the greater Vek victory and took out The Volatile One to further the schemes of the Psion Tyrant. Go Team Bug!

it could have been one of those Vek that do damage to the block they hit, plus a block to the left and right of that.

so if they were targeting a building or your mec and the volitile vek was in one of those adjaciant squares, then the veks would still attack it.
