How's the length/replayability?
Seen the game in quite a few strategy of the year lists but I'm curious how many hours one could get?

An average successful run for me is probably between 1 and 2.5 hours. There are 10 different themed squads (including a random and custom), and for each squad there are 3 different wins to complete (2 islands + final island, 3 islands, and 4 islands ... it's sort of like a self-imposed scaling length/difficulty) and each has 3 unique challenge/achievements tied to it (similar to the unique ship challenges in FTL if you've played that). If you don't count runs to learn the game or runs that you reset early on it probably takes me between 3-5 runs with each squad to complete all 3 win types and their 3 challenges on normal difficulty.

There is also an easy/hard difficulty and maybe ~20 bonus challenge/achievements that can be unlocked with any setup. And I think a few secret characters to unlock.

On the low end I would say at least 20 hours if you're the type of person who just wants to unlock all the squads and try each of them once or twice but don't care about completion or achievements. Probably around 40 hours can get you most achievements, challenges and gameplay. I could easily see maybe 80+ hours you're the type of person who gets really interested in hard mode + custom squads or if they drop a DLC expansion, but I think realistically anything over 40 hours will probably get increasingly repetitive.

Edit: I totally recommend the game if you like these sorts of tactical puzzle/strategy games. I'm enjoying it quite a lot.

My first victorious playthrough took me about 2 hours but the game is built to be replayed from the ground up with different teams that you unlock which really change your playstyle.

Beat it 5 times, still hop on from time to time. Wonderful game.

Closing in on 160 hours here. Took some time to git gud, not ashamed to admit that.
Still fire up the game every once in a while to see if I can get a handle on the Blitzkrieg squad, or get the missing gold medals for Zenith Guard. Maybe when I finally have all gold medals I'll finally get tired of the game.

If you go for all the medals on all difficulty levels and all achievements, you'll be busy for a while (100+).

Purchased the game! Thanks everyone for your help! I was wary because of the hype but it's actually great! Love it so far.

Glad to hear that!

Took me 80 hours to get all the achievements. The 8 different squads all play significantly differently, though sometimes they'll converge a bit due to upgrades. Some squads depend heavily on a weapon / passive synergy, like "smoke does damage" and smoke-creating weapons. Some not so much - the Frozen Titans for example are mostly defined by the presence of a Cryo Launcher, so any time you buy one of those during the game it feels a bit like you're playing a Frozen Titans variant.

Random Squad and Custom Squad are both kind of interesting in their own way. Custom Squad lets you put anything together, and there are some combinations that are absurdly powerful (like 3x Ice Mech). Random Squad forces you to learn a new playstyle each time, and some squads are just not viable because they're lacking something critical like damage.

Still, after collecting all the achievements to unlock the Cyborg squad, I'm feeling pretty done with the game.
