Another "games like this?" thread.
So, Into the Breach and Desktop Dungeons (link below) are two of my faves over the past several years. I love games that can be played in sessions of 15-30 minutes, and you don't have to worry too much about a major storyline or permanently developing characters. I like that they're kind of like little solo-boardgames/tactical one-offs that I can play during a "coffee break." I also like the rogue-lite elements. I ALSO like the simplicity of design, in that they're very well balanced and nothing is sacrificed because devs were worried about narrative or extra bells and whistles.

SO, any games like this? I've kind of scrounged through steam, but feel like I might be missing some.

Have played and liked FTL, Invisible Inc, anda couple others slipping my mind. Any recommendations welcome! And thank you!

(I'll be posting the same thing in the Desky Dung discussions)

Oh man, I have a love-hate relationship with Desktop Dungeons. It is incredibly mathematical and powerfully satisfying when you bring it all together, but damn does it feel like you can't do anything when you mess up even a little. Oy. I felt like I had to calculate friggin' rocket science in order to overcome.

I'm impressed a single session of this game is only 15-30 minutes for you! Those dungeons labled "Vicious" are just absolutely obsurd and take me at least an hour to work out, usually a little longer though. And I end up feeling so stressed, even afterwards.

Like, it's a great game. But it is savagely brutal. Into the Breach is a cakewalk in comparison. So if you're looking for a challenge, definitely check this one out. But I can't recommend it for casual play, myself.

Oh, I have an easy guide to dealing with vicious dungeons. I'll share it right here: I don't play vicious dungeons. Lol. Too hard and time consuming. I've cleaned out almost everything else in DD and I still futz with daily dungeons sometimes.

I just edited my post to make more sense. I'm looking for more games in the ballpark of ItB and DD. Thanks!

Chess composition is the art of creating chess problems (also called chess compositions). There are many types of chess problems

Thanks mate. I'm not a HUGE chess person, though. It's too abstract aesthetically for me. Even when I played as a kid I only played Battle Chess on PC (yes, I'm old). I like there to be at least the trim of fantasy or sci-fi or something like that. ALSO, I suck at chess and get beat 90% of the time by even poor players. I freeze up mentally against humans in almost every openly competitive endeavor.

Have you tried "Bionic Dues"?
That's the game that reminds me the most of "Into the Breach" (and vice versa).

Thanks, to both of you. Bionic Dues has been on my wishlist forever. How polished and balanced is it? Sometimes games just look kind of bootleg, so I never pulled the trigger on it.

i dnt know if Rogue like is your style of game, but if you look for an other "coffee break game" you can take a look at:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/288120/Dungeonmans/

it was an easy RL to pick, very fun gameplay, with an overworld map and lot of dungeons. you can play for hours, or just 5mn to clean 1 or 2 dungeons.

more fun in Dungeonmans.
more tactics for Bionic Dues.

Another longtime wishlist for me, iirc. I think I will get this. I love roguelike and lite. I loved ToMe, but don't have time to get sucked into it. THANKS!

If Vicious DD is your speed, try the Zachtronics games. SpaceChem is a fantastic puzzler - it's not quite a 15 minute lunch break game, but you can dip in and out of it easily enough. It had me awake late at night working out solutions in my head ... and more than once I got up in the wee hours to try a new approach to an apparently intractable problem. Opus Magnum is a more polished game, also a challenge but a bit cruisier than SpaceChem.

Mini Metro is my go-to game for a quick 15 minutes of game/puzzle/meditation.

love SpaceChem, but very tricky to master! Opusmagnus is a very solid game ;)

Bionic Dues present 4 mechs, but let you control only 1 of them. It's more like dungeon crawler than tactic.

Because of that most of the tactic goning for "outrange them" or "use AOE weapons to hit them from the angle when they can't retaliate". Not very diverse game, IMO.
The game like Into the Breach for mobile - Droid Mania: Tactical Roguelike
