A thought about spending reputation
If after completing an island you buy up to max grid hp, all the weapons you want to use, and any reactor cores you can afford, you may still have 1 or 2 reputation left over. You may want to just use that to overcharge your grid for the lack of anything else to spend on, but is that actually the best idea?

Assuming you haven't hit diminishing returns yet (which makes it half as valuable), 2% grid defense by spending one reputation on it will only cause a defense activation that wouldn't otherwise occur 1 in 50 times, and any campaign you'll take considerably less than 50 grid damage (or you'd get a game over first).

Wouldn't you thus be more likely to benefit if you instead buy a weapon you don't plan to use, then donate it next island in hopes of affording an addional reactor core?

Agreed. But make sure that you only buy the on-sale weapon. Because the other weapons cost 2 and you only get 1 for then selling it again.

Yep. That's exactly how I do it. Anything I got out of time pods is donated to fill out to multiples of three and if I don't have enough to donate, it's because I'm short two and only have a weapon, in which case I turn that spare into the sale weapon to sell later on.
