ITB feels like a shallow game overall, thats my opinion, FTL has nothing to do with it, move on if you don't like it as well.

They may add an advanced edition, but it's so much calmer than FTL that I can use it to relax and center myself. Play a few islands with rusting hulks and everything will feel better.
