As Ham said, it's similar to FTL's way opf doing things to get the ship unlocks.
I tried many times in FTL to get my ship down to 1 health then back up to full again for instance.
I dont mind it if you get extra rewards for extra efford. But unlocking extra mechs seems way to essential for me to progress. Once you finished the game with a certain squad, there is little more you can do in this game.
Extra skins, for example, thats stuff that should be hidden in achievements, not core game elements.
Because of common sense.
I like this idea.
And since you can play on easy mode they are not even that hard to get it's just tedious and boring. I would like to try the secret squad but most likely won't because my time is limited and I would rather spend it having fun with the game and not just jumping through dumbly designed hoops.
"Oh hey, look we got you this really cool looking greatsword but you know what could be fun? If you used this piece of straw as a weapon instead. If you don't you are not getting anything else."
It will never happen
Like, if the achievements are going to be tied to core meta progress I feel like there maybe shouldn't be "Throw a run by doing something actively detrimental to you constantly" as some of said achievements.
Then again you don't have to do them, as you don't have to try to perfect islands or save as many citizens as possible.
It would be way worse for me if I got everything unlocked just by finishing runs
I completely agree with this though, some achievements ARE dumb, but so were some in FTL like "get to 1 hull and then heal"
