Change the way we get coins, now!
For every island you saved before finishing the game you get a coin. Simple as that.

Achievements should not be forced in my opinion. Forcing players to sacrifice missions just to get one achievement to progress in total is stupid.

As Ham said, it's similar to FTL's way opf doing things to get the ship unlocks.

I tried many times in FTL to get my ship down to 1 health then back up to full again for instance.

I don't want it to be possible to unlock everything just by grinding, the way it is you at least need to work for your unlocks

I dont mind it if you get extra rewards for extra efford. But unlocking extra mechs seems way to essential for me to progress. Once you finished the game with a certain squad, there is little more you can do in this game.

Extra skins, for example, thats stuff that should be hidden in achievements, not core game elements.

Because of common sense.

Wholeheartedly agree. That would make a this good game even better. Btw, just because FTL does something, doesn't make it the best way.

Most of achievements are the way to understand squad mechanics. If you cant do them, try more. If you just want to unlock all squads, there is a way through file editing.

Took me ~47 hours (minus ~5 afk hours) to gain all achievements. I don't think a changed system is really needed. That being said 1 coin per successful normal or 3 per hard run might be encouraging for players who have issues with the tougher achievements.

I like this idea.

It's a mixed bag. I don't mind the achievments where you need to demonstrate that you are good at the game but there are a lot of really dumb gimmicky ones where you just need to shoot yourself in the leg for no apparent reason to get them.
And since you can play on easy mode they are not even that hard to get it's just tedious and boring. I would like to try the secret squad but most likely won't because my time is limited and I would rather spend it having fun with the game and not just jumping through dumbly designed hoops.

"Oh hey, look we got you this really cool looking greatsword but you know what could be fun? If you used this piece of straw as a weapon instead. If you don't you are not getting anything else."

It will never happen

I will say, some of them, like, what, "Shoot 5 temporal pods" or w/e just seem so dumb. At least ones that, say, say "don't equip new weapons" actually suggest an alternative playstyle where you focus on upgrading what you have, which can be very effective, as opposed... "Shoot yourself in the foot because we said so."

Like, if the achievements are going to be tied to core meta progress I feel like there maybe shouldn't be "Throw a run by doing something actively detrimental to you constantly" as some of said achievements.

IMO the achievements give spice to the game, but even if you don't want to do them you will eventually get the coins anyway because most of them just unlock playing good.

Then again you don't have to do them, as you don't have to try to perfect islands or save as many citizens as possible.

It would be way worse for me if I got everything unlocked just by finishing runs

I completely agree with this though, some achievements ARE dumb, but so were some in FTL like "get to 1 hull and then heal"

Having to think an plan out approaches to obtain Achievements an Unlock rewards? Who woulda thought? Suggesting that the alternative to this should be to simply grind out victorys until you have everything is far less rewarding an really an obnoxious model. All I hear is "I want an easy way out." "I want to have everything the game has to offer without really putting effort into the game." Game hasn't even been out that long getting all the achievements is not some grueling endeavor, they're all reasonable to obtain an even though I haven't obtained them all yet, I'm fairly close an I haven't even been doing them on Easy difficulty. All but 1 can be earned on Easy difficulty. You guys should be able to handle this.
