Can someone explain pilot experience
Does pilot experience carryover to a new game? Should I stick with the same main pilot game after game to build up experience or go to a new pilot? I thought I read somewhere pilots experience increases every game you play with them

Yes, experience and unlocked skills carry over if you select that pilot and keep it as the time traveler.

It's easy to reach max pilot level, including with new pilots you find or hire along the way. So you're free to choose any of those 3 you have.

When the pilot is maxed - his abilities would never increase more.

What is the difference between pilot and time traveler? Does time traveler gain experience? Is the time traveler one of my 3 pilots?

Time traveler is just a pilot you've picked from previous timeline. He would likely be maxed or have more XP than starting pilots and those you find.
You need to enter final battle 3 times with the same time traveler for achievement.

Regarding the mechs piloted by AI, and not time traveller: what happens if a pilot/mech dies during a mission? Is he gone for that playthrough? He will appear again next game with same experience?

Grid power carries over to the next island? I'm down to 1 starting the 2nd island

If a mech is dead at the last turn, the pilot of that mech will die. A new version of them can show up in other playthroughs, or you can pick them at the start of a new game if you've unlocked them, but they'll have a different amount of XP anda bilities.

Grid power is plnaet-wide also, yeah.

Well some of my pilots died, and when I started a new game, all 3 pilots had 0 experience and NO levels upgraded. So I dont understand the game mechanics yet, like people are saying I will be able to use the pilots again next playthough and he will have some experience. But in my case he died and now has 0 experience?? If I am about to die would it be better to quit the game and start a new one before my pilots die?

Yes, you should abandon the timeline when there is a pilot you want to keep still alive and there is no chance you could possibly win the run. If he dies he is dead, another version of him (which is not him) doesnt have any experience.

If you lose the run due to running out of grid power, you can still pick a surviving pilot to be your time traveller. If you click change time traveller to select a different unlocked pilot instead of the guy you saved from the last run, they start with 0 experience, but it may be worth doing if you have a mech on the squad that strongly benefits from a specific pilot's special.

so only 1 pilot will have experience transferred to a new game? All other pilots go back to 0 experience?

Yes, and you want a different "unlocked" pilot that wasn't in your last run you get no experienced pilots.
