I'd also say that any flying mech that you can equip with the Grapple is hilarious fun, because you just position yourself over pits and pull enemies towards you.
Custom squads are good, because I can use my favourite mechs from different teams, although they don't always work brilliantly together.
Also three teleport mech, it's so fun but I don't know if I can do it without Mantis Pilot.
I'm playing much better with Flame Behemoths though.
Also, there's a trick that not everyone knows with the hazardous mechs. Even if an attack brings the mech's hp to 0, the pilot will survive if you deal a killing blow. So as long as a vek never brings your hp to 0 and you always deal a killing blow when you attack, you'll never die and you can keep attacking. It's risky, but it's saved my bacon many a time.
