This game is wearing out faster on me than FTL is.
There's just not as much going on, compared to FTL. There's largely the same missions going on , on different islands. Are there some unique missions to each island? Yeah. But there's way more of the same ones, than unique ones.

Lack of enemy variety is started to be felt, as a result of this. A number of enemies are literally recolors of each other, but with more health and maybe an extra 2 or 3 hitboxes attached to their attacks. But they literally behave the exact same as their previous counterpart.

I just, dunno. This doesn't feel like it has the long lasting power that FTL has.

And to be clear, I'm talking about Pre-Advanced edition FTL (Launch day FTL, 1.0) vs this game.

Agree with OP, not as much stuff going on as compared to FTL.

* Way too few enemies, few mechanics
* Way shorter campaign(just 4 islands that are also small)
* No random encounter risk-reward system with choose your own adventure elements
* Way fewer items for mechs. Also they have way more impact here than in FTL, playing larger role, so you can't just swap stuff to see if it works, since it can just destroy your team's performance, as compared to FTL, where changing one weapon for a test fight is usually ok, since you got a lot more guns and sybsystem to back you up, and you can even retreat.

Also not a big fan of that minimalist maps and just 3 mechs, I'd rather have 4-5 mechs and accordingly larger maps. Just 4 mechs would already satisfy me.

I don't mind paying full price for the game, I've got a lot of fun from FTL, this game is decent and overall the developers deserve what they ask for the game.
But it's such a shame if this game is left as what it is now, so much potential. I'd want it to be expanded, there is a lot of room and it's a promising start.

Modding is going to help, the game is frankly easy to mod.

Just a reminder that FTL has MUCH more content then ItB, because FTL has had years of support.

I sunk around 60 hours into FTL BEFORE all those years of support. Before Advanced edition.

I've hit 7 hours of this and its starting to feel repetitive. Which is crazy, because the squads are different (Or atleast mostly), but the gameplan is generally the same. The objectives are the same.

I know that FTL could be boiled down to " Kill the enemy ship over and over", but for whatever reason, that didn't feel repetitive until literally after dozens of hours (After the 100 hour mark for me).

Agree. FTL at launch had me way more interested than this game. Already bored out of my mind

Agreed with the OP.
5.3 hours in and I've just uninstalled it.

I feel I've done everything in the game before I've even hit the 4th island, there is just nothing in the game that makes me as a player want to stick with it to get to that last island.

Yeah I agree with OP, too.

Depends on a person.

Some people put way more hours into it.

Heck I put almost 8 into it and I'm not bored.

23 hours, finished multiple times and nowhere near bored.

I've only tried 3 squads in that time as well.

Yeah, this is a game you just need to get into

Each squad plays in a completely different way and even if you get the same maps, different enemy types and their strategies make it so no campaign will go the same.

Please don't use that phrase. The fact that there are limited maps and limited enemy selection as a whole, the " No campaign will go the same" phrase is frankly false. There aren't enough unique variables for that to be true.

I except ITB to get additionnal content and mods will add to the longevity.

25 hours in and only 3 achievements left to go. By comparison it took me much longer to clear FTL, and I got 96 hours of that. But that's because FTL was harder, longer per individual runs, and required more runs to get everything even if you never lost. But yeah once I get all achievements and try out the secret squad, I'm probably not going to play much more. I mean might try and see if I can clear hard with each squad some day, but we'll see.

With regards to an Advanced Edition, I'd like some challenge scenarios, where each scenario is one map (possibly larger than 8x8), with preset player equipment and enemies, with difficulty higher than usual.

That would be the hope.

It's a puzzle game. I has similarities to chess, amongst many other boardgame/puzzle games. Chess is SUPER repetitive. The units never change, the board is always exactly the same, but chess has remained popular for centuries.

I usually hate comparing games to other games, but to me, this game has legs.

Sure, I wish there was variety in map size, more units, more stuff, etc. But, this game just clicks with me, and I think I'll be playing it for a long time. I enjoy it more than FTL. I never got into the mysterious unlocks that FTL had. Yes, I know you can Google to find out what is required to unlock new ships, but I just don't like having to do that. This game has everything out in the open, no secrets (there may be secrets, I don't know, because they're secret). But, I DO know what I need to do to unlock the squads and such. Win games. That wasn't the case in FTL. You had specific things you had to do, at the right time, in the right place, with the right crew members, etc.

Anyway, I love this game. I hope they continue to add new content. I suck at it, but I am getting better. Best I've done is halfway through the second island on normal. I gotta get my brain into gear.

So, long story short - I don't agree with the OP. I'm the other hand.
