Tierlist in your opinion?
Which squads are weak and strong in your opinion?
To me it seems like the rustsquad(smoke) is at the top while judo is at the bottom.

It's a bit of a first impression, but so far, for me, based on success rate in hard 4 island:

  • Custom squad (3 primes)
  • Rusting Hulks
  • Zenith Guard
  • Rift Walkers
  • Steel Judoka
  • Frozen Titans
  • Blitzkreig
  • Flame Behemoths
  • Hazardous Mechs

It does depend a bit which time traveler you take as well, you really need Abe for the self damaging mechs.

Basically the weakest teams are the ones with a weak gimick (hazardous/flame) and the ones with the single weakest mech bringing them down.

I think the flame behemoths are good. They have artillery which doesn't hurt team members, a really good mech for positioning and the fire DOT can really help thin the vek.

Gonna come to Hazardous' defense a little here. They've got an iffy early game against high-health enemies, but they're absolute bullies against low health enemies and scarabs, and their damage upgrades are inexpensive. Since healing occurs after all damage calculations, it barely matters that they damage themselves as long as the first deployment is good. All they really need that they don't already have is a non-destructive form of crowd control, like Grappling Hook or Teleport.

I first thought that hazardous is trash tier too...than i learned that your units can,t overkill themself, that all healing is applied after damage and that your mechs can,t die while still in dmg-healthgain calculation, even if they drop to 0 hp.
Once you get a few dmg upgrades they are quite strong.
Gonna second this,

Through all of my playthroughs I've decided that Hazerdous is about the most overpowered squad you can pick from the default selection. Not only is the Overkill mechanic crazy fun to use but it can get you some pretttty pretttty big multi kills. This team has tons of synergy with the pod drops/perfect islanding prizes/and reputation rewards. Hazerdous has gotten me the most achievements from my playtime so far as well. Give them a try that and random are about my 2 favorite ways to play, waiting on getting every squad so i can start custom squading.

Played alot of the smoke squad as well, that plane is such a good unit :praisesun:

-Rusting Hulks, would be lower if Camila Vera didn't exist. Map control, good damage, good scaling, their only weakness is a crowded board early game really. You can either upgrade the jet's damage or go for increased artillery damage to deal with 3 health enemies on island 2, island 1 if you imported a pilot with +1 reactor

-Frozen Titans, but they're broken with Bethany Jones or another secret pilot in the Ice Mech. Even without that you have a way to safey do missions with 3 rewards early, just freeze the alpha and you've basically deleted it from the fight.

-Rift Walkers, they're just flexible and reliable. I see them as the Kestrel A of ITB

-Hazardous Mechs, they can kill themselves as long as they get a kill!

-Zenith Guard, Abe Ismau in the charge mech and the burst beam are amazing. Avoid train missions and defend the Renfield bombs though, unles you get a backup weapon pod drop for the prime. Interchangabe with Unstable Mechs imo

-Flame Behemoths, they're basically just a slower Rift Walkers with more interesting gameplay and better psuhes, but meh early game damage. Fun squad to play. You definitely want secondary weapons ASAP

-Blitzkreig, they have a tough early game but scale incredibly well; Rock Accelerater is an amazing weapon to boot.

-Steel Judoka, they take forever to git gud. The gimmick is body blocking, but you end up with a lot of units vek alive per turn, and the artillery is just not very good until you get "buildings immune" on it. They scale up extremely well though, assuming you don't have to dump your reputation into grid repairs. This is really the only squad that "sucks" imo, but they're still usable. Definitely not Engi B or Zoltan C level of bad

I think Hazardous has 3 problem, 2 of which are worse on harder difficulties with there are more tougher Vek. If you have the opportunity to run around one shotting Vek or get good backup weapons like the smoke bomb to cover weaknesses then they are very strong.

1. They don't start with any way to deal with a Vek in a corner with 2 buildings without hurting the building. They can also have difficulty against flying Vek attacking buildings in water (Jump guy can jump into water but it's not always possible to do so without hurting a building).

2. Against high HP Vek, or medium HP Vek appearing before you have damage upgrades, they'll need multiple shots to kill, reducing their health. While they can heal from death it does mean they'll often be on low health making body blocking and non killing shots harder.

3. When dealing with multiple Vek the acid mech will often need to push instead of teaming up for one shot kills. This then combines with 2.

Hazardous mechs are really strong and I just beat the game with flame behemoths for the first time. So, I disagree completely with that list.
Also playing 4 island hard, and I absolutely can't stand Zenith Guard. The prime has terrible problems with targeting allied buildings; if the upgrade allowed it to not hit allied buildings, it'd be a LOT better, but as it is you have to choose between killing your own buildings or just leaving it unupgraded. The ram mech when fully upgraded with Abe is basically just a 4 damage attacker... the Rift Walker melee mech already seems more consistent. Pull mech is probably the second worst positional mech outside of Judoka. Trying to get a 100% score run with Zenith Guard will probably be the absolute hard mode.

For me:

Frozen Titans. Bethany Jones is just a reusable delete or shield anything on the map.
Rusting Hulks
Rift Walkers

Hazardous Mechs
Flame Behemoths
Blitzkrieg

Zenith Guard
Steel Judoka

Hazardous Mechs (with Abe) is the best default setup.
Rusting Hulks with their cloud nonsense is insane.
Everything else
Steel Judoka

What's up with Blitzkrieg being so low on everyone's list? In my experience they're easily the most powerful squad in the game. Let's look at the pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Lightning Whip: This one is a pretty strong contender for the title of best weapon in the game. With a nice base damage of 2 which can be upgraded to 3, and the amazing ability to hit targets touching eachother for the full damage of the whip allows you to obliterate every enemy on the map with proper positioning, even in the late game.

2) Rock Accelerator: Probably the best artillery IMO, simply due to the variety of things you can use it for. Aside from simply being a pretty good 2 damage artillery as a weapon, it's ability to place a boulder if it doesn't land on an enemy can be used for a lot of things, such as blocking enemies you can't kill or displace, blocking emerging enemies to ease pressure, or using it to create a longer lightning chain by having it fill an empty spot.

3) Grappling Hook: This mech is probably my favorite utility mech, though whether it's the "best" is arguable. For starters, it's one of two mechs in the game with passive armor (The other being the Judo mech), which makes it nigh-invincible against weaker enemies, and giving it decent potential as a meatshield or lightning chain. The hook itself is extremely versatile, which can be used for lots of things, including pulling enemies onto emerging enemies, pulling enemies into water/lava/a pit, pulling teammates out of danger, moving enemies out of the way of buildings... yeah, it's extremely versatile.

Cons:
1) Lightning Whip also chains to friendly units, which DOES do damage. Though you can use this by using the Hook tank as a relay to chain enemies together, it makes Tank and Train defense objeectives significantly harder, as they get obliterated in one shot.

2. Lightning whip doesn't push enemies, which makes it (unless I'm mistaken) the only prime mech who can't actually do that with their starting weapon, making moving enemies away from objectives harder. The hook mech does a good job of compensating for this though.

3. Rock Accelerator doesn't move enemies it hits, as well as being unable to push things vertically to the mech, giving you less control over positioning than other artillery mechs. Though again, it is somewhat compensated for by the Hook mech.

TL;DR: Blitzkrieg is the best squad in the game, and I doubt even a custom squad could be better than these guys.
The problem is that your point1 is false..it only chains through buildings. That makes it very situational.

I suffered a lot form 1. And found their gameplay not so fun, even though I just beated hard with them.

And I actually had a blast with Flame Behemoths. They are so much fun to play, and the swap mech is amazing! May be the best mech in my book so far. :D

Lighting whip chains through enemies, allies, buildings and bolders. But with bad positions it could kill your objectives like bomb, rockets etc.
WhiteCrow Mar 2, 2018 @ 10:34am
Anyone who complains about Zenith Guard beams hitting buildings doesn't know how to use shields ..
