Spiders lay eggs (and get under my skin)
Following my Mine Bots topic, I thought I'd create a separate one for the Spiders.

First off, as before, I am really enjoying the game so far, but a few things really grind my gears sometimes.

This time it's Spiders and the engines that spawn them. It seems to me that they have absolutely no limitations on where and how they're going to spawn their eggs. They don't do it in a line, they don't do it diagonally or some arbitrary amount of squares away from themselves. It seems that they can spawn eggs willy nilly anywhere.

I think this is a bit annoying cause it seems like the eggs are always targeted at spots where they cause the absolute most damage. I recently had a run where my main damage dealer mech was pinned down by a Spider shooting eggs at it from the very beginning of the round. I couldn't take care of the eggs with my other dudes as they were focused on damage control from other creatures. Meanwhile the Spider spawner just pins down my main dude every turn and is impossible to kill because it's chilling in a safe spot across the map.

A lot of this could be avoided if there was more information displayed on how the Spider is going to spawn eggs, or if it was unable to move as fast as it does now. Perhaps there are other solutions to this as well.

What are everyone elses thoughts on this? Have you guys ran into problems with Spiders? Do you think they should be changed/nerfed or is it too early to tell and I should just get good?

Should not be changed. It's just a part of the RNG as far as I'm concerned. The only reason I'm in love with this game is because you can get screwed even if you did nothing wrong. Take that away and this game will lose its magical feeling imo.

the spiders are annoying because they simply outnumber you... but they have only 1 HP, and if you can push them into each other, they can be easy to kill.

As always with things that spawn, it's best to try and kill the spawner first

It's strange that you feel that way. It looks to me that they deliberately tried to keep RNG to a minimum in a lot of situations, so that the player remains in control.

Pretty much every enemy has behaviour that can be exploited to your advantage even before we take the "telegraphed attacks" into account. Melee dudes will try to get into melee range, ranged dudes will try to stay at range. Spiders have no discernible behaviour and don't telegraph their "attacks" (i.e. the egg spawn).

Encountering an Alpha Spider on the first island will likely not play out without any losses, unless the stage is very favorable, or the starting loadout can deal with sticky eggs and hatchlings promptly.

when you enter a island watch for the enemies there if you don't think you have the load out to deal with it don't go to the island.

as for the spider i find it is easier if you have the damage every enemy for 1 damage weapons or the air drop bomb so you can do 1 damage to any where on the map those only have 1 charge so kill the spider fast and block enemy entry to lower the chance of encountering spiders
