True Ending? I've googled a bit, and didn't find anything...
... so I take it there's no "true ending" where I have to do something completely obvious, like dropping 3 gold pieces onto a specific spot 23.5 seconds before transitioning into chapter 4, or else my entire playthrough will be basically worthless?

There is an ending but you can keep playing after that to 100% if you want or get better stuff.

There is nothing like a "true ending" in this game. You dont need to meet any requirements to get a different ending. So just play the game.
