Melee still trash after all these years
Why is melee so much garbage in this game, compared to warband you improved on gunplay but the melee aspect is three steps behind. Cav controls are the absolute worst as well, not even being able to block on horseback and good luck if your target decides to step 7 feet to the left or right because you can't turn your horse fast enough because even the horse controls are mediocre. Med-high level melee duels are just dudes spinning in 1080's feinting their attacks to try to throw you off which results in the most unappealing melee I've ever seen in a Napoleonic game. Instead of focusing all your dev energy on cosmetic DLC's you'd think you would have at least improved the melee after all these years

melee is janky always has bin in holdfast if cav could block u would never be able to beat them cav is super op its y there is only a few of them per game and the melee for all its lets downs is very fun to play and when u get to that med-high level in melee them duels are very fun but each to there own
Maybe I was a little hard on the game in this post as I do love to play it, I just wish the melee was more fleshed out and more attention was paid to it because its a big part of this game. Also ross I don't think cav is OP at all, 90% of the time you can shoot them off their horse or a sergeant can simply pike them to a stop. If you look at napoleonic wars from warband, cavalry (with the exception of lancers) could block but they were still very vulnerable as the attacker could just stab their horse and dismount them for an easy kill. The same could be applied here, all they'd have to do is reduce the HP of the mounts to where one stab or two stabs could kill a horse.

This debate has been had a few times. The folk that play cav were dead against having their precious mounts HP reduced (personally I think its a decent idea). So because they got their way, no one (except cav players) is going to want the class improved and therefore made more powerful.

Its the reason why I dont play. I prefer the melee but its terrible :/

pub stompers get to crazy kill count by going melee.

not sure iirc, but they were going to make melee changes some years ago but regiments didn't want the melee to change

could be wrong though
Agreed, this is the biggest downfall of the game in my opinion. So much so that when I first played the game, as soon as I experienced melee I uninstalled and didn't play for years. The Warband DLC was far better for melee.

Granted I am ♥♥♥♥ at it, skill issue etc etc but it's just too cumbersome and janky. The hit detection doesn't seem to line up with where the weapon model actually is. Playing cavalry, my sword seemed to be killing people a foot away from the actual sword!
So it's not just the fact that I have 300+ ping that's making the melee jank? Good to know.
