Dead Cells
Forgotten Sepulcher is one of the worst level designs i've ever played
Love Dead Cells. Love Souls games. Love Metroidvanias. Love good, fairly designed levels. This is just horrible. Teleporting clown show of hundreds of enemies and someone had the "bright" idea to put a mechanic where the dark actually hurts you, forcing you to go fast and aggro the entire circus. Or you can take it slow, use the throwing light, then slowly lose all your health anyway when the mages throw their fireballs through walls (which is another stupid design decision)

What went wrong lads? Literally every other level in the game manages to get the right balance between fair, fun and challenging, but this one drops the ball on everything. Terrible. Just terrible. Even worse than Tomb of the Giants in Dark Souls 1. I really hope they remove the level or adjust it massively in the next update.

My DPS is fine. Doing damage isn't the problem. The problem is that my level has long corridors of extended areas absolutely FULL of ninja's, who follow me for the entire map. These are easy to handle on their own, except the same room also has those robotic monolith AOE enemies, as well as multiple mages and scythe throwers. All. In. The. Same. Area.

I can't run past them, cos the sheer amount of enemies eventually block you and then the monolith AOE kicks in, killing me instantly. So instead, I take it slow, lay down turrets and take them out without aggro'ing the rest... And then the lights go out and I have to either make a run for it (suicide) or return back to the previous light, to fight the teleporting ninja clown bus again.

I'm a souls vet. I've put thousands of hours into those games. Not once did I ever find an area like this. I suppose thats the advantage of hand-created levels rather than rogue-lite randomly generated ones. Perhaps my level is an exception, but currently, I genuinely don't think it's possible to beat it. It's that stupid.

Not a single issue with any other level in the game, like I say. Just this. 10/10 game otherwise.

Definitely a user issue. Pilot error. :)
I uploaded a run of me doing Forgotten Sepulchre SLOWLY/carefully (no timed doors, no cursed
chests), with a silly build, on 3 boss cells. I hope it helps convince anyone who keep claiming that Dead Cells must be played a particular way (speedrun, tactics meta, etc.)

Note that I'm not a particularly good player, so (1) be nice with criticism, and (2) you can do it too! :dcfunny:

After a bit more playing in the biome, I gotta say, there are some cases where you get dropped into a terrible situation and you MUST run through enemies until you find an undying light source, and only then can you stop and fight. So you can't ALWAYS take it slowly.

Also, some beacons force you to light them because you can't go around them. It'd be better if the player triggered the beacons with a button, imo. Then you'd get total control over when you want them to be lit.

This is exactly the problem, you have to take a leap of faith and hope the direction you're going in has a lantern, it doesn't help there's countless enemies and it's pitch black so you can't actually see if there's a lantern above or below you.

Hence why I said:

with a silly build

Anyway it's not a bad weapon, but many people would probably disagree with me. I just wanted to use something a bit weird so nobody would be like "well of course forgotten sepulchre is easy with 31 tactics and throwing knives" :steamhappy:
I started liking valmont whip since it got it's 3 hit combo, it's not that bad, but the best way, if possible, is to use the valmont whip mid air and pull an enemy form a ledge to his death.

Oh, and to the poeple saying you gotta get the light item, as i said before, you DON'T NEED THE LIGHT, you just need to git gud and you pass easily without it
I think you're thinking of the Wrenching Whip, Valmont doesn't combo or pull enemies, and it crits if you hit your target on the sweet spot at max range.

You are NOT forced to rush, you are NOT forced to buy the light, the inquisitors are FAR from op, they are actually quite easy. Your problem with this level is simply because you are not good enought to take the challenge.
Forgotten sepulcre is actually my favourite level. You have a lot of ways to deal with everything:
->First, it's a final level, if you are not good enought to deal with the mobs there, you have plenty of time to buy or find something that stuns enemies, like a frostblast or a freezeing grenade. OR ANYTHING YOU LIKE, IT'S A FINAL LEVEL.
->Second, you can manage your lanterns you find along the way, don't just light all of them, simple. And you can say "oh, but the game is ramdomly generated, i don't know where to find them" you WILL find them, they are very weel scatered.
->Third, take a shield and learn to parry.
And i can tell for sure that all the people who discusses that this is a bad level, as you, are just buthurt people complaining because they are not good enought to take the challenge.

OP is wrong for these reasons

Although the shield isn't as helpful because you can get attacked from multiple directions and it's always better to dodge to safety than risk blocking and getting overun.

The only reason I dislike the level is that sometimes you don't find a light for LONG stretches. I've had a few runs end like that. Desperately searching around for them in a massive room, just to die slowly. I'm not crazy about having to explore the rooms, make sure there's a light at the end of the section, then back track.

Oh, you are right. In that case valmont whip is actually good too, i don't use that much, but just because it doesn't fit my playstyle. It has a lot of potential, get a magnetic grenade, figure out the range, and one-hit everyone. You can use that to get the no hit win against incomplete one and watcher achievement. It's a bit hard, i agree, but it's usefull

You can also get as souce of light, permanently even, with the wall secrets. They give you a permanent light and are relatively easy to spot in the dark, not as much as on previous updates, when they were basically highlighted.
