Hyper Light Drifter or Dead Cells?
I'm trying to decide which game I want, so only answer if you've played both.

They're different type of games though. What are you looking for? Hyper Light Drifter is the more complete experience at this time but I will probably play Dead Cells more than I played HLD once it's a little more complete. If you're buying now I think i'd recommend HLD but I'm not 100% sure on what type of game you're looking for.

They're very, very different games. One is top-down view with save points and a big unchanging world and playthroughs that last several hours at the least... the other is side view with no save points (you always restart at the beginning with all stats reset to 1) and a small procedurally generated world that's different every time you play and only takes about an hour (maybe two once the game is completed) per run.

I would recommend watching some gameplay for both. Given how different the two games are, it should be easy to figure out which one is more to your tastes.

After I posted this, I was thinking "well crap comparing this game with HLD is going to be like comparing steak and chicken. which won't make since at all."

I've watched an hour of Dead Cells gameplay, so looks pretty good.

On the other hand, I haven't seen anything about HLD. The only thing remotely close to it I've ever played is Feel The Snow, which was a pretty good game.

Loving rogue-X games ATM, so I found this and was instantly interested. and found HLD by a mod on Delver (another rogue game) which added some gear from the game.

I'm going to wait until summer sale and figure out what I think. Thanks!

HLD was a lot of fun, but my first time beating the game on the default difficulty took me 7 hours. I can see myself playing DC a lot more than 7 hours, as is, and more content will be coming as the updates continue to roll out.

Yup, I absolutely loved HLD and it's up there as one of my favorite games last year, however I just won't be playing it as long as I will be playing dead cells. It has some replayability and with the boss mode you will be going back to it for a bit but honestly once that's done...you're really done. It's a full experience and it's great but I'll be playing Dead Cells for way longer than that just because of how the gaming loop is set up.

Light Drifter is short. . . I think most people have beaten it in 4-5 hours?

You can probably go 8-10 on this and it's not even done yet
Both. I always say both. But Hyper Light Drifter is really something you don't want to miss atmosphere, music and combat wise. Especially the music.

Playes HLD ~30 Minutes and idk.. I don't like it.
But maybe I should give it another chance.

Anyways. Dead Cells is great imo! Played it 10h in the last two days :D

Both. But they are different at all.

Light Drifter is way better. I played it twice and it would unbelievably amazing. The OST, art, combat, and colours were very good. Also the game fills me with a weird feeling of despair and emptiness, probably because of the apocalyptic world its set in. That feeling gives me an attatchment to it more than any feeling I'd get with Dead Cells.

In Dead Cells current state its not better than Hyper Drifter. In fact its not even a competiton.

oh, yes, the music... I guess it's the first game whose soundtrack I ever wanted to buy and it always fits so well in game. I love HLD :CompHLD:, I have 35 hours on it over some runs.Took me around 10 hours to beat for the first time but I wasn't blazing my way through and was trying to complete it.

Do check HLD gameplay, might want to check some reviews (the whole story is textless and kind of vague so not much to spoil unless you are looking for it, I guess). It's indeed kind of a short game but a totally worthy experience, even better at a discount. There is no procedural generation so replayability is naturally lower than DC, there are less unlockables, combat is fast and as awesome as it looks. Some people were saying HLD is harder than Dark Souls but I think it's an exaggeration - it does require some skill that might drive off some players (HLD, DS and DC all do that) but I find it to be a cool yet simple game with the right level of challenge (and it respawns you right at the last screen before your death so no walk-all-the-way-back-to-the-boss frustration) where you must improve as a player rather than just collect upgrades and attack stuff until it stops moving. Dead Cells is really enjoyable too; seems to be taking longer to beat right now (I think I'm at about 10 hours and many deaths) and it's still EA, probably worth the money for raw content assuming things stay on tracks. There are some things I've seen people complain about so you might want to consider a few things: 1) it's not really rogue-like, it's not really souls-like and it's not really Metroidvania, 2) you go back to the first room (no checkpoints), 3) there are some balance issues, 4) there will be dead runs where you will feel the game screwed you over (which most rogue-likes have, though), 5) a patch is coming and more content will be added in the future, 6) not exactly hard (presumed you play wisely) but it can be punishing (lose all souls cells, gear and upgrades when you die) and 7) the story is... I don't know? Right now, nearly absent?

Assuming the gameplay of both games are fun for you, as they are for me... Do you want a full, finished game experience? HLD. You don't mind that right now there is actually less content but want something that gives you more game hours for your money anyway? DC. Keep in mind they do play very differently so I guess you will benefit from seeing more videos on both games to see which one gets you more interested.

Dead cells hands down.

HLD hands down. That game is amaazing, but also finished.

Comparing promised features and kickstarter trailers with what is in final game I wouldn't call HLD an exactly finished.
dantemcedgelord May 31, 2017 @ 6:06pm
OH MY GOD THESE ARE MY TWO FAVOURITE GAMES

HLD is a more complete experience with a beautiful story and graphics. It has fun and challenging combat and a rich soundtrack.

Dead Cells is the better game in terms of combat, but is more challenging. I have played more Dead Cells, and the combat and animations are excellent. It's good, and its not even finished yet.
