Best strategy for power
I am always short on power (and on food and water also because I put everyone in power). Can somebody help me with this?

Right now I have 5x 3-rooms fully upgraded power rooms.

My total rooms are:
16 x 3-rooms
5x 1-room
1x 2-rooms

So total rooms of 22, not including the vault door and elevators.

What is the best strategy? Because I'm lost and everyone says something else on the internet.

You probaly have a too big population.

And a too big radio room fully upgraded.
The radio room eats tremendous power. I was always short of power cause of 2 room radio room.
So I demolished it and it was more doable.

Shortage of food and water. is cause your population is too big.

But basically for a 3x power room optimal is 4 people working in it.
For food and water 3 people is enough.
Labs and Rad away lab. usually 3 people working in it is also enough.
But if you are skeleton crewing it. make sure atleast 1 of the 3 people working stuff. is high level.
basically you want either 3 high level working. or 1 highlevel and 3 noobs.

Depends how many dwellers you have. I try to not grow too quickly. I just play how I feel is best. My vault is doing fine at 46 capacity. I have 1 3x room with 6 dwellers and 2 2x room with 4 dwellers each. And 2 2x empty power rooms for extra power.

For food and water I have 1 3x room for both each with 5 dwellers. No rooms are upgraded as I don't feel my dwellers are good enough yet. They all have 7 dmg rusty laser pistols.

I wont increase it until all the current dwellers are replaced with fully trained from birth dwellers and all have 17dmg rusty plasma rifles then I will increase to 55 and make better outfits.

I have no radio room and my population is 39. And I have a labs but nobody is in it because when I put people there, my resources go low. But thanks for the comments! Will have a look at it.

How many power stations do you have crewed? labs at start you don´t need to upgrade.

Labs are usually done for the storage of stimpacks. upgrade only produce more.

I think the main problem is that your vault is too large for your population. Having lots of production rooms doesn't help when you can't keep them properely staffed at all times. I started a new vault recently, it currently has a population of 35 dwellers. I have 1 food, 1 water, and two power rooms, all tripple wide. The food room is fully upgraded, water and power only one upgrade. I have resisted fully upgrading living and storage rooms to keep both emergency severity and power consumption lower (yes, upgrading rooms affects it's power consumption), and only build more as my vault fills up.

I currently only have 19 rooms, but some are temp endurance training rooms that will be torn down once I get the current (mostly low level) population to 10 endurance. I also try to rotate people through the appropriate training rooms to level the SPECIAL they need for the room they work in, but only when I have enough surplus to ride out the production slowdown.

Your power production should be twice your power consumption. Same with food and water. Your supply marker should generally fall in the middle. You want a room to have dwellers with at least 20 of the stat in total, with more being better. Expand slow and start training your people in strength, then perception/agility, and rotate them around so that they have the max stats for their station. Luck also helps.

1 last tip.

build a few (1-4) extra 2 wide lvl 1 power plants. But build them so they don't border your main base, and try to not even lett them border each other. These will stay empty while your online playing, or you will place 1 pregnant female in each one since they run away from dangers and are invulnerable.

then when your about to log out for a while (sleep, RL agro, etc) put 1 decent power wokringg dweller in each of those rooms before you do. (can ignore this if you allready have those rooms crewed with the pregnant female). When you come back online, you move the dweller back to your main rooms for firepower / fire fighting strength.

& when you log back on all those extra power plants will have a resource cycle ready to claim when you log back in ( if enough time ahs passed). This will greatly increase your power reserves each time you do this, giving you more 'wiggle' room.

I use this method to help boost my survival mode vault. And it does great so far.. but im stille arly game on that latest survival attempt.

good luck have fun.

let me know if you need screenshots. :steamhappy:

PS: this can be done for all resources
