What effects wasteland exploration encounters?
Does anyone know? I tried googling it but theres no breakdown of how the random discoveries in the wasteland work. I have had a vault open for an hour with 3 people exploring and not had a single one - yes I do have an overseer's office. Help?

All 7 SPECIAL stats have an effect on encounters.

The longer a dweller has been out, the higher grade loot they find as well

To get legendary weapon & armour recipe's & junk drops a dweller must be searching the wateland for over 2.5 days. It can be found earlier, but not likely. Its all in that faq.

good luck ahve fun

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats all affect your voyages to the wasteland
how long you stay out also affects the loot you find too
armor and weapons especially impact how well you do and how easily you lose health
stim packs and radon also help you survive longer, especially stimpacks
you can go at max 3 days with a low lvl max stats legendary armor and legendary weapon, as well as with a pet. This is assuming your character lvls up each day till it reaches close to 50 which is the max capped lvl you can reach without cheating or mods. After around 3 days, your character tells you how it can't carry anymore and by default heads back and the button to keep exploring can't be pressed.
any other questions its in FAQ in the pip boy under the gear icon thats the settings.

maybe I wasn't clear - I mean the events where you take control of them out in the wasteland - like finding a gas station or a market. How do I get those to occur more often? Seeing as I have to be actively playing the game to get them.

They are just down to luck.

There was a discussion on Reddit about this where they were trying to test this. One answer they thought they found was that wasteland encounters stop happening when you have more than 10 dwellers out exploring. Some Redditers confirmed that as soon as they only had nine, the events started happening again.

This is absolutely not true. I have 26 explorers out all the time. My vault and population are as good as maxed. They stay out for 3 days before they return when their inventory is full.

I get encounters about every 20 minutes. Of course you have to be logged in for at least 20 minutes and longer.

And I believe a high Luck stat helps getting these random encounters.

But the game is a mobile game where you play for 10 minutes and then log out, specially when your vault and dwellers are maxed. That is probably why people think they are not getting any wasteland encounters.

I find that luck and perception work best.

None. Finding the dungeons are purely random.

stats and luck
the further you go into the wastelands, the higher your chance to find an explorable place. Also im 50% sure luck stats help you find it easier or give you a higher % chance to find one (not sure entirely so don't quote me on that)
also it increases your chances if you send even more npcs to explore the wastelands, as at least 1 is bound to find one

No it definitely does not.

11+ endurance makes them immune to rad damage while exploring. No SPECIAL affects rad damage in the vault or in quests, including random encounter location quests triggered by wasteland explorers.
