If you want to know how to stop drifting away from objects: You cant right now. They are working on a fix for it to use the "Match Velocity".
Right now the best you can do is have a less then 1m/s drift in any direction.
Shift does stabelize your spinning .
Once your speed is about 0.1 m/s it takes 10s to drift 1m, 16 minutes to drift away 100m. That's easily doable on jetpack.
Exactly. Can confirm, did scavange about 8 junks that way and mined a couple of asteroids.
My approach to inspecting junk is usually to get as close as possible (30 meters or less) and as closely as i can to the object and then i tap reverse a tiny bit so my ship is very very slowly moving away.
Why? because my ship passing the junk while i'm scavenging or colliding into it is not something i want.
So there is no way to stand with a locked target for example?
