You cant stop ever. If you would do that, you would lose orbit. Thats how it works in phsyics.

If you want to know how to stop drifting away from objects: You cant right now. They are working on a fix for it to use the "Match Velocity".
Right now the best you can do is have a less then 1m/s drift in any direction.
Shift does stabelize your spinning .

Ok so there ist no real way to investigate junk, ships or modules because your ship will drifting away while your space trip?

Yes unless you play in a group of two. Basically the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up in realsing the game without engines or Match Velocity.

dev fail to sync ship an debrice or station speed...simple physic fail for programming..lol

Use taps on directional buttons rather then long presses for precision. Once your relative speed indincator shows 0 use visuals to confirm you're not drifting away, or at least not too fast.

Once your speed is about 0.1 m/s it takes 10s to drift 1m, 16 minutes to drift away 100m. That's easily doable on jetpack.

Exactly. Can confirm, did scavange about 8 junks that way and mined a couple of asteroids.

While you cannot stop in space because standing still really doesn't exist, you can be "mostly still" in relation to another object in space.

My approach to inspecting junk is usually to get as close as possible (30 meters or less) and as closely as i can to the object and then i tap reverse a tiny bit so my ship is very very slowly moving away.

Why? because my ship passing the junk while i'm scavenging or colliding into it is not something i want.

So there is no way to stand with a locked target for example?
