Disappointing but expected.

I'm not gonna pay $20 for a sloppy port, considering that good $20 ports like Bayonetta and Vanquish exist.

Crapcom can get bent.

Sorry to disappoint my friend. Hope you at least give it a chance and test things out within the two hour refund window.

Glad I didn't pre-order then. Looks neat but I'm not playing at 1/4 of my monitor's refresh rate :/

I saw that coming honestly. It was the mindset of game devs (especially Japanese) back in the Ps2 era to lock things to framerate like this. Especially when no plans for another version were on the table during development. Obviously this became quite a rare thing in the 360/PS3 days, but I'm understanding when it comes to something like this. Either way the game will (hopefully as it should) be the definitive experience on PC regardless of this, but considering the sales history of Okami, there's just not enough of a guarentee that they'd make their money back on making it work. At least they tried it first before deciding against it, I'll give some props to that.

I will be buying a physical copy of the PS4 version on Tuesday. If I'm going to play at 30fps, it might as well be on my 55' TV.
Oku Dec 8, 2017 @ 8:05pm
>implying that a coder won't have a way to unlock the framerate and keep it stable within a week after launch anyway

whew

I get it. Its a port of a old game its only $20 and the dev team ported to three platforms. Lets hope 30fps is the only issue with the port.

Ps2 era game from a Japanese developer, who are known to tie frame rate to physics etc.

Now, is it a shame they're not putting in the effort for an uncapped framerate? Yes. But, it is what it is. If a modder finds a way then more power to us.

I guess the bad mojo comes from the lack of effort on CAPCOM's part.

Best example I can mention, [PlatinumGames/Little Stone Software/SEGA]'s Vanquish:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/460810/Vanquish/

  • Vanquish was 30 FPS *locked* on consoles.
  • The game engine assumed 30 FPS timings everywhere.
  • PC release had uncapped framerate.
  • Somewhat-Game-Breaking bugs on release? You bet!
  • But the devs rolled theirs sleeves and fixed things.
  • That's part of the drill when you do a PC port of a console game.

The Vanquish PC port example was even mentioned 3 months ago to Yuri Araujo over at CAPCOM Unity:

http://www.capcom-unity.com/dubindoh/blog/2017/09/12/okami-hd-journeys-onto-ps4-xb1-and-pc-this-december

Besides that, the merits of 60 FPS over 30 FPS are quite noticeable:

https://youtu.be/rvXuTwtmXOs?t=1m15s

I will probably buy the game anyways, but not right now, and definitely not at full price, because of the FPS decision.

Finally, I recommend the guys and gals at CAPCOM to read the following to try and understand what are the expectations for gaming on PC:

The features PC gamers want—an open letter to developers and gamers

Edited: The demand for Vanquish is much higher than Okami though.

Also no one is denying that 60FPS is better than 30. There's no question about it, however it's a matter of effort/cost vs demand.

It's not a game where 60fps will make any difference whatsoever.
It was designed for 30fps, animations are suited to it so it runs just fine.
The exact same thing can be said for Ocarina of Time.. the game runs at like 20fps but feels as smooth as butter due to animations and everything being for that specific fps and nothing else.
Some of you people are just irritating and ignorant and nitpicky as they come and you deserve to not play good games because of your idiocy. So thank yourself for screwing yourself out of it.

Okami is not a racing game or a fast paced FPS where the frames matter.

Whaa, whaaa. My PC master race FPS. News flash, the engine was probably locked to 30FPS for a reason.

PC begging race didn't beg for this game. So they are going to come down on it hard.

Dude, PC have being my main preference for a very long time, probably as old a many of you.
I don't give a damn about console wars, PC master race (what is an awful "joke" reference to nazism), and I can tolerate games at 30 fps. I consider myself a gamer, that means a person who enjoys playing video-games, and that also means, doesn't matter from which system.
Anyone that see this as bragging, fine! But I often get disappointed whenever I see this bickery between "gamers".

It doesnt need to be a "fast pace", lol, FPS. Nor a racing game, lol, for framerate to matter. High framerate matters in EVERYTHING. The game FEELS better and is MORE RESPONSIVE to player input. EVERYTHING benefits from higher framerate. EVERYTHING, with no exception.

That "its not a fast paced game" still exists at this point in time, entering 2018 is mind numbing.
