Agreed, it's a great game, I've held off on playing it too much before release so I wouldn't get burnt out, lvl 8 as a Lizardman cleric(swapped from the original human); hammer and shield. Looking forward to trying out afew other classes to see how they play.
Sounds like you're looking for an MMO. I agree this game would be really good with a whole world to explore.
No, what I want is a personal world with lore im able to explore with a solid LFG system and the ability to bring in my friends for coop or have the entire thing to myself that has a set loot system. I believe MMOs are a thing of the past and this is the system we'll eventually move to.
*doesnt want an mmo, proceeds to describe an mmo*
World of warcraft just announced three expansions, on top of a reimagined take on vanilla wow, as well as cataclysm classic. FFXIV won an award last year for best ongoing game. Guild wars 2 is still going strong despite the tough competition. Just because game mills arent churning out freemium mmo after freemium mmo anymore doesnt mean the genre is ancient history.
what youre looking for is a 3rd person ARPG, like hellgate london, remnant 1 and 2, or even modded skyrim with Skyrim Together.
Is my 'exceeded my expectations on fun' game of 2023 (have over 1k games so it stands out)
Not really. There are zero mmos with actual action type combat which is much easily doable without the massive part of that. While it may be very similar to an MMO, there are key differences that are easier to attain. I've played MMO's since the early 90's. I'm not looking for that as most of them have lost the functionality they began with that made them so entertaining in the first place. I'm sorry if you can't understand that. There are MMO's which try for it, but fall short in dramatic fashion. There are plenty of single player games which hit the mark, but refuse to have the features a lot of communities have been asking for without us creating the mods necessary to accomplish this ourselves.
The game Godfall does actually come close and was fun for a long time. Even with the bugs which came with it, though you can't really call that a true open world game and not a true single player game at all with it's always online requirements.
Also I never said MMOS were ancient history. I said that I believe that we're moving away from those type of open world games as companies see that you can accomplish much the same thing but with better mechanics and hitting both target audiences (mmo types and single player lovers) with a much less minimal constant impact with cheating, gold farmers etc. The evidence is shown in the much lack of new solid MMO's within the last 15 years and the overflow of games which tide to the prior described with a growing number growing towards the designed mentioned.
Especially seeing as the top MMO is currently from the realms of 2004. That's not to say there aren't other that aren't bad, thats just to say that the top ones are aged at best, and all are hindered with many issues that are either glossed over or paved over with features that get you to try and turn a blind eye to them.
All MMO's which try to fool you into thinking they actually have action combat. Elder Scrolls Online among the worst. All the rest aren't even close to being new other than TL. They're not dying, they just are no longer the future and all but one of those are FAR from close to being new. All of those MMO's also have tab targeting.
