Icy Depths solo
Is it just me, or is the Icy Depths dungeon quite the difficulty spike? I went in there with lvl 11 and appropriate gear, it says recommended for level 5 - but it's noticeably harder than the dungeons before, playing solo. To the point where I have doubt if I can even do it without going back to other dungeons and farm better stuff and levels and coming back basically OP.

I created a public lobby and found some nice folks to run it with, we ended up finishing it, but not without running into a few odd situations that seemed like bugs. And it was honestly quite hectic and stressful, because in a group of 4 randoms, there is little coordination and some people just speed through, while I barely had the chance to take things in. It was my first run of the dungeon after all. I'd prefer to learn the dungeons solo first, but yeah. The game needs some more refined balancing that takes both solo and groups into account.

You die to so many cheesy/annoying mechanics in Icy Depths that its a PITA

Everything knocks you back off ledges / bosses break floor so you fall to death etc etc

Even the starting mobs if allowed to group up due to the flag summons empower each other to the point that if you don't deal enough damage to kill them you will fight them endlessly (i tried to do NM Icy on my level 12 champion in purple/red gear and it went nowhere after the first few mobs so went back and did it on hard and it was doable, but still eating lots of cheesy deaths)

Archers who can kill you in 2 hits if you don't immediately run up their towers to get them, they also do knockback if they hit you lol

The Ice King who puts you in a cage with an add that you need to kill (that has a flag empowering it) but also casts circles of ice from the ceiling that if you stand in for 3 seconds will kill you... so if you don't kill the add fast enough before its cast over you while stuck in the cage... you dead.

The golem bosses with the explosive add that can kill you if it detonates within a screen of you...

It's just a really frustrating dungeon to run

I'm in the same boat at the moment... Pretty frustrating. The golem near the end (i guess) one shots me before I can understand what's happening.

OK i can help with this one because i've gone through that

The golem does 2 things to kill you quick

1) it breaks the ground when it does its special attack (at its location), DO NOT stand toe to toe with it or you will die fast, keep back pedalling/strafing even if you are melee when attacking it to avoid this (you'll notice your health get dipped down fast when the special attack goes off and you are standing in the broken ground even if you cant see it)

2) when the Golems split into 2, the red/fire one summons an explosive ADD that will move towards you and explode. Its explosion range is HUGE. If it blows up near you, you WILL DIE
Make sure when the add shows up you ignore the fight and just run away from the ADD until it blows itself up and goes away, then return to fighting the boss

If you do the 2 things above you will win

I kept dying to the explosion add without even realising it was killing me 'died to fire' because i thought no way i was in its range, but yeah... once you get these bits down you will pass it

The disparity between normal and hard in that zone is ridiculous! My husband and I did well going through there trying it on hard (recommended level 11). We were level 16 when we started it. We tried nightmare and was killed instantly, so we dropped to hard. We could handle the regular mobs. The named mobs were so unbelievable hard that it would take us a few tries to figure out. By the time that we got that last mob in the dungeon, we hit level 20 while attempting to kill him. That means that we were now 9 levels above recommended and he was killing my thief almost instantly with that arm attack even though he was not looking or aiming at me. His stomp managed to flatten me when I had just re-spawned and was climbing down the flipping ladders so far away from the battle!. We tried to figure out that battle for a few hours between 2 nights and finally gave up. We had managed to gather 19 heroism points while trying (that means doing nothing but a few wacks, dying, and running back to start over again, no kills). We quit the dungeon and knocked it down to normal. The named mobs gave us about as much trouble on normal as a regular nobody mob on Hard. That final named went down too fast. We felt horrible doing it, but there was no way that we could have beaten that Quoron the Dead, even at level 39.

I'm gonna say this here for people struggling with content or nightmare difficulty. The issue is most likely your gear if you're stuck. Set items make the game much easier at any rank.

Detailed tips, hidden in case you're not interested in "spoilery help". I had fun figuring things out by myself, and I imagine I'm not alone in that, but if you need help still then this might help:

If you're confused about what stats to look for on your items, here's a quick prio list that has worked for me and friends:

Attack power (magic, ranged, melee power % increase)
HP % increase
Magic Resistance % increase
Armor % increase

After that critical strike chance and cooldown reduction on all items you can find are my recommends.

It's ideal to have 2 or more of the highest prio stats on all your armor pieces, if you're a ranged class you can obviously get away with the attack power increase over defensive stats. But if you're melee you should probably find a good balance.

If you need consumables, sell some essences and buy big Rejuvination potions. The potions are 100% a nessisary expense on higher difficulties.

I also have a loot drop guide in the guides section if anyone is interested. It has a farm location and various information that might help you gear up.

If you're around 10k hp and 1500 in armor and magic ress, you should be able to get through most of the game on nightmare difficulty except the last dungeon.

I hope this helps you get started.

Hmm. I thought that perhaps we were too low in gear, but I know that I was wearing all purple level 19. I was aiming for melee power and power %, but just going through the normal quest lines with redoing a specific dungeon a few times due to a bug and I had just under 5k in HP. *shrug*
