A couple of questions
1. What are those 4 coloured crystals in the Lair of Ceranids for? You can dim them, and their counterparts on the boss arena will also turn black, but it doesn't seem to spawn anything extra.

2. Where do you obtain the item to active the Altar of Cold in Ragewind Castle?

SPOILER! the altar is activated via cold heart dagger you acquire in another dungeon.... I found it dark hollow area
As for 4 crystals, dunno, guess they just make boss battle easier if turned off first? I always did that anyway.

The Crystals affect the difficulty of the Wizard Boss in the open area after them. If you don't click them you see all 4 colour balls floating above his head and when he fights you he is greatly empowered.

Beating him in this state gives 2 chests (2nd one gives 1 more material essence of a high type??) instead of just the 1 chest

So far i found it easier to turn them off so he's weaker and steamroll him to keep moving forward
Thank you both. I always turned off the crystals, so never saw the empowered boss.

Is it a regular equippable dagger (if so, I might've sold it), or a quest item?

yes you pick the dagger up along the way, should catch your eye as it has extra white description on it giving hints to its abilities and is equippable and usable, in fact you must use it at the altar :D Luckily i kept it but when re-running dungeons with other chars recently picked up another but can't remember from who or where exactly but almost sure it was dark hollow although i'm now doubting myself and wondering if it was from the ice dungeon... hmmm....

Some more questions:

1. How do you unlock the purple chests in the Headless boss maze? Killing the boss and all banshees doesn't help.

2. The current event's Spectral staff looks normal (metal) first, but after some time (kills?) becomes transparent. Does it have any actual effect, or i's just for the lore (feeding on souls)?

3. What's the effect of the third (200 cost) winter cap? The effects' description of the first two caps is straighforward.

Thread from 2 years ago... okay.

Putting this here in case someone plays and looks for the answer. The Dagger needed for the last dungeon is indeed located in Dark Hollow. You need to defeat the four guardians in towers (and to get to the two pairs of towers there are two bosses, one next to a portal and one spawning a portal on death in the area "around" the towers). After killing the fourth guardian a redish portal appears and you get into the fifth tower with a couple of chests. The dagger is located in the chest on the top floor.... HOWEVER:

As you learn from the journal nearby (if you stop to read the lore/text at all) - the loot in the chest is dependent on who you kill last (i.e. in which tower the reddish portal to the last tower actually appears). IF I remember correctly - the last one killed should be the rogue in the purple-windowed tower (you get the dagger, after all, seems appropriate).

How on earth players were supposed to figure out, that in the last dungeon you need a dagger that you MIGHT come across (these are optional bosses) and ONLY if you HAPPEN to kill them in a specific order without any further clues is beyond me. Especially when you have a "cold" light altar, for which you are "too warm" and there is a perfectly logical ICE-themed dungeon there.

That, and the Dagger is 'rare'... it does have a bit of lore text, which other weapons do not, but if you're, oh I dunno, a mage or whoever that doesn't really want to equip a dagger as their main weapon, that thing is going straight to the salvage bin with a "select all" - and as far as I am aware - it is just possible to destroy it by accident.
good stuff, if you look at this guide it explains how to find the dagger, who has it, what to look out for in the towers - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3135449393.
If you do scrap stuff by accident, like the dagger, luckily you just have to run that map again from the start and can win the dagger again. You're right, some items are odd at first, you put them in your bank and later wonder if they could be used as I/you found out.
Kill the rogue boss in towers last you get the dagger for altar.
Kill the cleric lady boss in tower last you get the Magic Cap of Brilliance, which you need to equip to open the "ghost" chests in the maze part of Ragewind. The ghost chests are just like the cric chests, they drop 1-3 eternal pieces of gear.
