Is it ok to play in Steam release order?
So, I know it is basically 4th canon and it has some references to Napishtim. I liked lore of these games. But since it was released after Napishtim I though maybe devs made it comfortable storywise to play after Napishtim. Do you think it will be ok to play it this way? I've completed 1,2, Origin and I'm planning to start Felghana right now, then Napishtim, Seven, Celceta, 8, 9, 10

Yes, definitely normal and okay to do, because each game told a complete story within itself, doesn't need other games played for you to understand the main plot.

There will be references to others indeed, but more of cameos and for nostalgia effects, not pivotal or affect the main story you are playing.

Another thing is following games release order (not Steam actually) will let you see & enjoy the evolution of the combat throughout time, avoiding the "up-down-up-down" experience. After all, it is quite bizzare to go from Ys VIII to Napishtim I would say.

Just FYI, story chronological order

1. Ys 0 - Origin
2. Ys I & II
3. Ys X Nordics
4. Ys IV - Memory of Celceta
5. Ys III - Oath In Felghana
6. Ys V - Kefin Lost Kingdom of Sand (dated back to NES era, no Steam remake yet)
7. Ys VIII - Lacrimosa of Dana
8. Ys VI - Ark of Napishtim
9. Ys VII - SEVEN
10. Ys IX - Monstrum Nox

Actual game release order, technical evolution

1, Ys I & II -- Bump Combat
2. Ys VI - Ark of Napishtim -- Wind-Thunder-Fire hack & slash
3. Ys III - Oath in Felghana
4. Ys 0 - Origin
5. Ys VII - SEVEN 4-skill layout & party
6. Ys IV - Memory of Celceta
7. Ys VIII - Lacrimosa of Dana -- full 3D combat starts here
8. Ys IX - Monstrum Nox
9. Ys X Nordics Duo combat

So actually, you should go with Napishtim first before Felghana & Origin lol

Oh, I see, So Steam release order is not really release order. That's actually good to know. Thank you. Then all I need to do is to move Celceta and VIII to the end like I planned.
