However, the "playstyle" point becomes minimized and kind of a moot point, because once you are a decent ways into the game, then you will have many puppets to choose from which can cover all of the playstyles of all of the possible classes (i.e. archer, melee, mage).
Therefore, you might want to pick your starting character solely based on who you like best story-wise, even if you don't like them best gameplay-wise. Because you could always just use a puppet who is of your preferred class to play as most of the time, even if your main character is of your non-preferred class.
As for which characters fits the story best: that's a subjective question, but ultimately it boils down to personal preference.
I took Kallig personally and I loved how he has a lot of hilarious antagonistic conversations with one of the other melee characters who you acquire later in the game.
Although I never played the game with the other main characters so I'm not sure if they have similar interactions, or not.
At the end of the day, I suggest you just take the main character whose story background you find to be the most intriguing.
My problem, now that I think about it, is that the starting characters are kinda uninspired. This complaint becomes ever more noticeable the farther you go. You've got midget snipers, bone golems, wasps(as I hear) etc, but the starting characters? A brute, a bandit(Undead Ranger, really) and a Fire Sorc. They aren't even that creative with these, they lifted skills of Evie from Diablo 2 and her concept from Dungeon Siege 2(Princess Eve and Evie? lol). Really should've gone more creative with starting characters.
The rest of the game is fine and gold / xp issues(should really get more of both) can easily be remedied with Trainers.
As for which I like the best? Hard to say, but it probably isn't Kallig. He's cool, but voice don't fit imo. Wild Boar's very cool, but I'd like if he were even more of a motormouth. He's very cool. Evie is ok, would be better if they made her a fish out of water. Probably WB > Kallig > Evie.
So far she has been alright against most enemies and I found her story interesting.
I still think starting characters are too vanilla, outside of WB. He's cool.
1) Your first Hero can’t be removed along, so party should be always made to fit this partupicular hero.
2)Everyone has own personal quest (Which is best goes with tastes)
3)Well generally it doesn’t matter which one you take first. Game inspires to play all 3.
4)There are only differences in their roles and skills, and how they speak. It makes no difference on outcome, though.
Btw I believe Eve is most boring in gameplay. Her skills skills are nothing in compare to other mages, but you can’t take them, because Evia already took mage role. Lizard mage with chain Lightning and Dragon are far superior. On the other hand Kalig May be not so interesting in Role play or as character, but he is very interesting in gameplay and very efficient Bruiser. Jasker... I say middle middle. Generaly all archers are used only for ultra range attack only, abilities very rare, so Jasker can do his role as range dd with autoattacks just fine. In terms of story not as intriguing as Evia, but better than Kalig.
So
Kalig: good gameplay, role play and story typical
Evia: gameplay based on making building the whole party to dance under Evia, in order to make her abilities useful, instead of carrying out max efficiency, story line made acceptable good
Jasker: middle in both aspects.
Lizard Mage? Dragon? lol, see what I mean? So many cool characters and they start off with the most vanilla trio they can(basically Diablo 1 team). Ok, Jasker's cool, but would it hurt them if they made Evia more Sand oriented, maybe even sculpted her around Princess Jasmine(that's awfully similar to D2 Sorc though) or something? Maybe make her more of a "Battlemage" and get inspired by Heroes of Newerth's Nomad? I don't know, they're so vanilla.
Regardless, Evia's abilities seem the coolest and the "best" to me, but I actually find Jasker as a character better. Kallig is...meh. That Bone Golem you get don't help, I think it's better at what they do than Kal is.
Not sure what you mean by "you can't take them." That isn't accurate. There is nothing to stop you from putting Lizard Mage in your party even if Evia is your main hero.
Yeah, I currently have a "Mage" setup with Evia, Sebak and Groot. Works surprisingly well. Even if I could honestly swap one of the latter two for the guy from Bordel(his flasks synergize crazily good with Evia).
If you use console to speed up the move (anywhere between 1,4 and 2 is fine) and give yourself some gold and xp(the game's surprisingly stingy with these, seeing how nothing respawns)...the game becomes quite fun! It shares that trait with Nioh: somewhat flawed without anything, with some cheats, it becomes 100x better(because you fix the holes in the ground / framework).
Regardless, can't wait for subsequent playthroughs, it's a mighty shame that this game's as overlooked as it is. I'd hate if devs give up on these ideas.
One perk to taking Evia is that you can essentially ignore fire-based traps (and cakewalk the fire section in the elemental labyrinth) since she her flame shield reduces the damage to near-nothing. Between that and the Sebekan you don't really need to worry about any of the traps or elemental enemies.
The biggest strike against Jasker only applies at the beginning: you end up in the awkward situation of having two archers until you're almost at the point of leaving the city.
