not gonna lie the option that sounds best to me is a moderate aim assist, there wouldn't be much interest to fights if it just autolocks on sth that's like 45° off.

Two other thoughts/question answers (to the best of my ability):

1) I agree that an aim assist close to an aim bot makes for sometimes effortless and unfair fights. Hopefully, the aim assist will not be that powerful and will still make for fun and interesting battles.

2) We probably won't be able to see the specifics of the aim assist's intensity (or what specific weapons will have it) until the update comes out and we get to try it out for ourselves (my guess as to what weapons will have the aim assist ability is probably the weapons mounted on stands--like small cannons and possibly large cannons). However, Flashbulb Games did make a video going through the details of the Airborne Update. I haven't watched it, but I know it includes some gameplay reveals and therefore most likely shows the aim assist in action. Feel free to check it out to see how intense the aim assist is in the video (link below):

I really dislike the idea of auto-aim since it takes out the fun. Please either make it a campaign exclusive or nerf it.

it's already been said that it's more an aim assist than it is an auto aim

OOOOOOoohhhh man, i can finally bomb my friend golf cart with ease.
I'm looking forward to quests but I'm hoping they can be more than just simple go here and collect 10 things and return to quest giver. if you played new world you know what im talking about. I'm hoping for an odd world: strangers wrath kinda mission build. you take the quest. there is a series of obstacles and enemies to go through and they aren't manditory but are still fun to kill and then there is a boss or target at the end of the path to interact or kill and you may or may not have to bring back the target depending on if you are collecting, saving or destroying.

one thing that trail makers does do very well is the collecting the target. but making the target go to a particular spot in a particular way was very interesting as a mechanic and should be utilised in the future. chasing down a target like the beetles that could take a thing from the protagonists are a great start and has been successful for spyro, angry birds, and mario and countless others if the game is going to get its own story arch.
