Can you fight AI?

Hey,

Interested in the game but solely to play with a friend in co-op, not to fight each other.

Is there AI bad guys on the planets and in space?

There is (technically AI-powered) in the Space Sector map, where space pirates guard certain points of interest in the map. And there's an island with pirates and other enemies in one of the DLCs, called the Airborne DLC. However, It's recommended to play the Airborne DLC in campaign mode. All of them are technically AI-powered, as they are flying using path-finding codes.

Alright. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of AI though. I was hoping it was going to be a bit like Scrap Mechanic, but without the need to eat or drink, which would have been perfect.
