The DLCs very fun (in my opinion, obv.), especially if you enjoy making good looking vehicles with many details and liveries, but they're not strictly necessary.
You can use vehicles that use DLC parts/skins off the workshop too, you just can't save/edit them.
I haven't really invested any time in other sandbox vehicle building games, Trailmakers has been my go-to ever since, bc of how intuitive & fun it is to build.
Thank you very much.
PS: Thoughts on scrap mechanics?
